Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo might star in a Japanese drama next year, as a Hallyu star. Hallyu literally means ‘Korean wave’ in Korean. It refers to the popularity of South Korean popular culture in Asian countries.

The drama is still in planning stage but Kwon Sang-woo has expressed interest in starring in a Japanese series next year. Early speculation suggested that Kwon would be starring as a Korean star who falls in love with a Japanese royal.
If things are going as planned, the J-drama will start filming in May 2008.

Chinese actress Gong Li is set to star in movie “Shanghai” alongside Hollywood star John Cusack.

The story background is set in the turbulent era of Shanghai (pre-World War II); there are 2 versions about the plot, not sure which is the official one…
1. Cusack is starring as a journalist who visited Shanghai to find his missing friend and caught in a mobster war; while Gong Li plays as a mysterious lady who is a key figure in all the chaos.
2. Cusack a special agent sent by US to Shanghai to fight against the Japanese. Gong Li is a gangster boss and helps Cusack with the cause.
The movie is scheduled to start filming in February 2008.

A Japanese magazine has published a special column for Chinese movie “Red Cliff” (credits to 163.com) with interviews and some latest photos from the movie set.
Red Cliff is the highest budgeted Chinese movie ever produced; it is directed by renowned director John Woo and featured a strong cast of Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung, Vicki Zhao, Lin Zhi Ling etc.

Taiwanese star Cyndi Wang made her Malaysia concert debut last Saturday (November 10) at Genting Highland.

Singaporean singer JJ Lin was the special guest; too bad it wasn’t Nicholas Teo, her co-star in “Sonria Pasta”… the fans would go crazy if Nic could appear at the concert.

Mainland Chinese star Vicki Zhao was in Hong Kong yesterday (November 5) to promote her album… and looks a bit chubby…

The press was bold and asked her if she has gained some weight… she said that Beijing is cold and she eat a lot recently, and the weight is going up and up.
I don’t really mind artists gaining some weight; most of the stars these days are too skinny. Besides, I like how Vicki handled the question; some of the idols would have gave the press a wack if they asked about their weight.
On the other note… that was a lousy dress. It probably makes Vicki looks chubbier than she is.
