A Hunan TV station decided to stop showing Taiwanese TV drama “Devil Beside You,” starring Mike He and Rainie Yang.
It happens after the TV station received a petition signed by over thousands of TV viewers boycotting Rainie… seems like some people are still mad at a Rainie’s statement 4 years ago, some improper words (which I don’t think she really meant it) towards Chinese war victims in World War 2.
Rainie has apologized in public a couple of times, but there are still people that are unhappy about her. In fact despite her superstar fame in Taiwan, Rainie is not getting many chances to perform on big stages in China.
On the positive note there are still fans that stand for Rainie… it is said that her fans in Hunan is collecting signings on a different petition to request the TV station to show the drama again.

joe… ya, I read about a Western priests that save hundreds (or thousands) of life during the massacre.
Actually the situation reminded me the tension between Middle East and USA (+ alliances)… I wonder if the terrorism and the hatred will ever end in near future. It is growing into a snow ball effect now…

Don’t know. It all looks rather bleak sometimes. All we can do in this world is hope people, governmets and leaders do the right things, not make mistakes and learn from the past. :)

I think some people might overreact on this issue. But I should say I depise this girl, she has too little brain, she is just stupid. And she acts so fake in her series.

Wikipedia states:
In 2003, Yang mistook the eight-year Second Sino-Japanese War as having been eleven years in length during a television program. After having learned the actual length of the war, she responded with “Only eight years?” This response generated anger in mainland China, leading to boycotting of Hunan Satellite Television’s airing of Devil Beside You, in which she acted. Upon learning the widespread boycott, Hunan TV replaced the show’s airtime with Green Forest, My Home.[2]

What’s worse. When they mentioned that 300,000 people died in this massacre. Yang acted surprised: only 300,000 people?

I was referring to Nan jing Massacre

they have no proof she said anything about nanjing massacre
only about the eight years thing
but she dropped out to be in showbiz so its not her fault she said it
and plus her career is acting and singing and hosting
not history.
my brother is an electric engineer. he shouldnt need to know anything about music. he can, that makes him smart, but all you really need is to do good in your own career

agree what #34 says…and #33
Like what my mom says, if u can forgive them then forgive them.
like if someone stole ur pencil.. ur not going to act crazii and all that stop trying to bragging whining and yelling
No, that wont work if u keep yelling and tell them to give back.
so just calm down and give us a chance to say sorry, and be nice to each other.. “treat other the way u want to be treated” ^^

I think its really stupid that people can act like that towards something like that, she obviously didnt know n shes just bad at history thats all.

Um the Nanking Massacre thing is farce. I saw from another source, that that event was an add-on to her mistake regarding the duration of the Sino-Japanese war. So if you’re hating her for that, you’re sorely mistaken. But since when does entertainment and politics have to mix? You like her work or you don’t regardless of how you feel about her.
To people who actually insulted her and degraded her: who cares? People who enjoy her work will continue to support her. So save your bad attitude for yourself. Expressing more of that would just make people wonder if that’s how Chinese are like when they become nationalistic (which is totally disrespectful).

People aren’t perferct. This does not make her lesser of a person. Forgive her and move on. I’m sure she has learned a valuable lesson from it.. Raine! keep up your good work!
