The crowing of Cheung Ka Yi as Miss Hong Kong 2007 has sparked huge debates online… mostly voices of disapproval… some are calling her the ugliest Miss HK in 20 years.
Many people believe that her crowning was a publicity stunt by the organizers, as Cheung was never a serious candidate for the title… she was not even rated as a dark horse.
I don’t think she is ugly, nor pretty… she looks just ok, like some normal girls we see everyday… but come on, Miss Hong Kong? Call me shallow if you want to, I have to agree with most netizens that she is probably not the right choice.

Why does beauty matter so much, isn’t Miss HK dependent on multiple factors? We s/b proud to have an average looking role model for our children because that is more realistic. Most beauty now a days are not natual but with the help of plastic surgeries.

Tbh not many of them looked that outstandingly pretty.

hmmm…i don’t know her but maybe what made her win is her body, or how she walks in the ramp…how confident she was during the pageant…or maybe how she was able to answer the final question…you know, beauty isn’t the only criteria judges and the people look into…

Personally, I also agree that she doesn’t deserve to win. Come on, it isn’t called a beauty pageant for nothing! BEAUTY! and she doesn’t seem to have any of that. I’m not calling her ugly, but shes just not miss hk material.

i watched the entire show, and she really didn’t do a super-outstanding job. maybe her interview was okay because she was quite calm. but i wouldn’t say she has a great body. she is quite short compared to the other contestants. beauty is not the only standard for mhk, but it’s important cuz it’s like the first thing a person notices when you approach her. but i think kayi cheung only had an average-look.

Apparently her father has connections inside and that’s why she won. So to sum it up ~ bribery.

Mommy_Yu… well, that’s one of the rumours. It could be true, could be not.

She’s not ugly, but most definitely not MHK material. She’s like any other Jane Doe. Who were the judges? Were they drunk? I thought Mok Hoi-Yan was the ugliest MHK until this newly crowned MHK2007 Kayi! Seriously, how in heaven is she going to compete in the Miss Universe, World or simply the Miss Chinese International. Loosing face, loosing faith in MHK Pageant. They should send Grace to compete in the Miss Chinese International Pageant to save some face.
Sorry to say, but Kayi Cheung is more on the pork chop side… No wonder she sparked a lot of criticism…MHK is all JOKE now!

Kayi looks too normal, too “girl-next-door” type - not ugly and not pretty. She didn’t do exceptionally well during the pageant…so how could the judges choose her as mhk??? However, although I’m not a strong supporter of Kayi, but DANNY, after reading your comment, all i have to say is that you are one big sad A**HOLE with a capital A. So what if her mum owns a fish store? That has entirely got nothing to do with her smelling “fishy”. Why can’t poor people be pretty? Are you saying that only rich people can be pretty? That may be true…after spending millions on plastic surgery, then, yes, that’s true.

oh my goodness she won again

there is a reason why it’s called miss hong kong and not miss average, if the sponsors really wanted the pageant to have average looking people, they would allow everyone to join, therefore the pageant should be based mostly on looks. Though, i do have to admit, that miss hong kong judges picked the wrong person to win lol. she wasn’t the prettiest among the contestants

Im from vancouver too..
this message is really directed to DANNY..
DUDE, why do u have to be so cheap and diss her family? Honestly, I didnt think Kayi deserved to win either and i do think she’s ugly, but you didnt have to bring her family stuff up ok…what her family does has got nothing to do with the pageant.
If she smells fishy, you breath and mouth must smell like S*IT
Nonetheless, back to the pageant, this year’s MHK is coming up…hope the winner will look much better!
