Jumong was the highest rated drama in Korea in 2006, and has started showing in other parts of Asia.

Korean drama Jumong

Jumong is a historical drama based on the life of Jumong Taewang, founder of the kingdom of Goguryeo in the first century. The storyline of the drama has been largely altered though, to more real-life basis instead of the myhtical legend of Jumong (he is said to be descendent of gods in Korean myth).

The 81-episodes drama starred Song Il-gook, Han Hye-jin etc. I haven’t watch the drama yet, so I can’t share much insight about the drama; below is the story plot I gathered from a few online resources…

The drama started with the story of Hae Mo-su, the father of Jumong… about his battle with China’s Han armies and his encounter with Princess Yuhwa (mother of Jumong).

The drama then focus on stories after Jumong was born and nurtured, becoming the prince of Buyeo and meeting with his father Hae Mo-su, who was thought dead during a Han’s pursuit.

The latter part of the stories showed the intense rivalry between Jumong and his nemesis, and his love relation with Princess Soseono.

Hope to see his Korean drama soon.

Lately I have been watching it with my mother and sister and we’re certainly hooked in this series. We’re are currently half way episode 56 to be exact and I can’t get enough of it. It is certainly a must see tv series! It’s history so it is more interesting. The story may be too long for some people but it is all worth it because everything about is amazingly beautiful. The plot, costumes, script, cinematography, set, even the earrings! Love it! =P I’m starting to have a crush on Song Il Gook. Actually I prefer Suya for Jumong. Don’t get me wrong I like So Seo Neo but she and Jumong are better off alone. Their destiny is not meant for them to be together as a couple but as allies in building a new country for the ancient Koreans. Yes, they do got married in the end but for the sake of settling the issue of who among them should be in the position of emperor since they collaborated in defeating the Hans. But in the end So Seo Neo left. Sorry spoiler! Hehe

For the lovestory of Jumong and So Seono, it was very romantic but in the latter part of the storuy, it was frustrating because Jumong and So Seono separated and marries to the other person. But in the end they will marry each other, because the husband of So Seono died early and knowing that the wife of Jumong already died. Also, they marry each other beacause the people dont know who will be the ruler of the newly built kingdom, which is the Kingdom of Goguryeo, they decided to marry each other for the sake of ruling the kingdom. So Seono become the Queen and Jumong became the King.

Jumong is a great and inspiring telenovela. It breaks the hearts of people who watched. At first its just okey, but when i continued watching it i couldn’t stopped even we have to paused for a while for our dinner. I love Jumong character. His humble, persistent, positive person and most especially having a big heart to his people. Have mercy to his enemies always. Gave chances for a changed. He fought for a reason. I admired his love to his mother… because of her undying love to Hae mo sue (the father of Jumong). Its a nice one. Congratulation to all the people behind the scene who really gave thier time and effort and all heads who think and made it.

    Its wonderful!!!!

hi to yummy.. this is for you..don’t be bother my those spoilers, when you have a chance to watch the 81 episodes, then you will really appreciate the twists that will happen between jumong and soseono. Their love is greater than building a new nation, expanding the territory of ancient korea. The matter is, Soseono really give support to Jumong, whenever and whereever she maybe, as long as she can have the chance she’s always there for Jumong, same matter with Jumong. So as the story goes along, both have not lost contact with whatever they are doing. hehehhe dont be affected with those spoilers. The love story of Jumong and Soseono is based not only by emotions but their will to have successes for their endeavor. Hope i could more time to give inputs and synopsis about the epic, its worth watching ,you will learn so much, the story depicts the before and now political scheme and attitude. so hope you’ll continue to learn with Jumong! till here

I have just started watching JUmong. It is unbelievably good.. It really pulls you in quick and it keeps moving. I have watched several KHDs and by far this one is the best. Just terrific stuff. Song Il-Gook is totally adorable in this show. In Emporer of the Sea he was way more serious and sad, smiling only once or twice. He was really good, as Jumong he is great!
