Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi was back in China to endorse Platinum Guild International (PGI), and was interviewed in Beijing.

Zhang Ziyi endorsed Platinum Guild International in China

It was mentioned that Ziyi will star in a cowboy movie with Korean star Jang Dong-gun; the filming is scheduled to start in May 2007. (Serious!?? 2 Asians in a cowboy movie?)

The press was probably more curious with her relationship with billionaire Vivi Nevo; Ziyi didn’t reveal much of the story, but said that she’s happy with the relationship.

Update - The movie is named “Laundry Warrior” (temporarily title) and will be directed by Korean director Lee Seung-moo

What is Platinum Guild International (PGI)? Is that an actors guild of some sort?

Great to hear Ziyi is gonna be in a new film. She’s looking great.

A cowboy movie huh!? That should be interesting. Sounds entertaining!

From my understanding, PGI is sort of an association from worldwide platinum (and related products) merchants and producers, aimed at creating a larger market for platinum products… not related to acting.

Visit PGI offcial website if interested with more details…

Actually, having Asians in a cowboy movie is a large step towards reality. If they started showing black people as well, with barely any whites, then it’d reflect the real demographic of the time.

Being a cowboy was a tough, hard life, it meant being away from anywhere you could call ‘home’ for long stretches of time, long stretches of boredom with the constant threat of being raided. Naturally, those the jobs went to those desperate to better their lot at the time - which were the orientals and blacks.

Well, I have to differ with you some on that issue. Sure there were alot of black cowboys and some Chinese, but photographic evidence as well as written payroll records of trail crews would prove to the contrary that there were “barely any whites”. And Chinese cowboys I don’t doubt existed, but it’s well known that more of Chinese immigrants were used on crews working to expand the railroad.

My point is, I don’t disagree with you that there were Asian cowboys and definitly even more black ones. But to say “barely any whites” is just not true. White cowboys post Civil war were plentiful. Especially southern whites who were poor farmers and sharecroppers who had no real professions to go back to in a burned out destroyed South overrun with carpetbaggers and burning and trashing of what cities were left during reconstruction years. In fact, their choices were pretty much hearding cattle in the west and midwest or robbing banks and trains as a way to make a living post civil war….Or if you were somebody like Butch Cassidy, you did both at one time or another. lol

I am not sure how to cut in the conversations between you two; I know nothing much about the Wild West and Cowboys.

seems so unreal .A chinese and a korean - — to play cowboys ?I can’t imagine it.Why not include Indians ? Just kidding

  7. #7. joe Says:

Any word on a possible title for this movie?

  8. #8. Yummy Says:

catherine… movies are unreal after all :p

joe… no idea yet. It’s weird actually, 2 big stars but very low publicity for the movie (Jang Dong-gun is very popular in Korea, pretty famous in Asia as well).

The info is out on the “Laundry Warrior”

It’s sort of a hollywood remake of “Seven Samurai.

The story is as follows…Yang (Jang Dong-Kun), the World’s Greatest Swordsman, leaves his clan and flees Asia with baby April, the last of the enemy bloodline. Hoping to make a new life for himself as a humble laundryman in America’s Wild West, he comes to know and care about the people of Lode, a small, forgotten town filled with carnival players. While there, Yang finds a pupil-lover in Lin, (a beautiful Asian girl played by Zhang Ziyi), but also makes new enemies with the Hell Riders, a marauding gang of vicious thugs. Reluctant to stand forward and defend the town, because it will mean revealing his identity, Yang is soon forced to pick up his sword and lead the “carnies” and townsfolk in to an incredible battle against the loathsome Hell Riders. At the pitched height of that battle, Yang’s past, the Asian sword clan he left behind, (”The Sad Flutes”), attack raising the battle to an epic crescendo…

Sounds like it may be interesting with alot of action.

Sounds typical heroic movie isn’t it? Seems like Jang Dong-gun is playing the leading role; Ziyi seems more like a supporting actress instead.

  15. #15. joe Says:

Yeah , it sounds like it. But I’m not gonna discount it as being bad yet. Jang Dong-gun is a pretty good actor imo. “Seven Samurai” is a classic movie ( I saw it years ago) and the story line has been borrowed several other times. Mel Gibson’s Mad Max movie, “Road Warrior” is such a movie and it was great!

Besides , I like a good action flick, lol.

  16. #16. joe Says:

LOL, I just realized the similarity in the titles of those two movies, “Laundry Warrior” and “Road Warrior”.

Incidently, “Road Warrior” is the one that made Mel Gibson famous.

It will be produced by Boram Film, which has also produced other joint projects such as “Seven Swords” and “A Battle of Wits”.

In addition, Barrie Osborn, who also produced the “Matrix” series and “The Lord of the Rings” will produce.

  18. #18. Yummy Says:

Well, I can’t say that it’s bad until I watch it… I am not a fan of the East meet West movie though; I always think that Jackie Chan’s Shanghai Noon (and Knight) are pretty bad taste in terms of the idea… but pretty good from just the entertainment perspective.

The fact that it’s jointly produced by Boram doesn’t really impressed… I always thought that Seven Swords could have done much better with the cast they had; Battle of Wits is a much better movie in my opinion.

I know… I am very critical when come to movies and dramas.
