Angelina Jolie adopts Vietnamese boyAmerican movie star Angelina Jolie adopted her fourth child on Thursday (March 15), a Vietnamese boy from a Ho Chi Minh City orphanage.

Government officials said the boy was renamed Pax Thien Jolie and is almost three-and-a-half years old.

I am a bit confused with Jolie’s move actually. It’s a good thing to adopt a child, but doesn’t US have children waiting to be adopted as well? Jolie might have a good reason to adopt 3 children from different nations, raising international awareness or something… but I just don’t get it.

Anyhow, as long as the adopted kids are well taken care off, I guess there is nothing bad for the adoptions. Have a nice future ahead Pax Thien.

farah… the boy is surely lucky, but I am not sure being famous is one of the ‘luck’.

Imagine living under the spotlight since childhood till he grow up… the press and paparazzi will follow his (and Jolie’s) routines just to catch the right pictures; it could be really disturbing.

Well, I think you make a good point yummy about there being plenty of kids in the U.S. that need adopting. Doesn’t make alot of sense from that standpoint. However, I think Jolie and alot of other U.S. celebs are more about image and being PC than anything else. I would wonder if she even considered looking at a U.S orphan for adoption.

My own opinion is that people should adopt a child not to make a ‘do-good’ statement to the world that they are doing their part to fight poverty, homelessness, etc, although the intention is good.

Instead, adoption should be all about a particular child and how well he or she bonds to it’s potential new parents. It’s gonna make a difference in the relationship that child has growing up with them.

And like you said yummy, being adopted by a busy , high profile celebrity may or may not actually be a good thing for this child.

    yup,i agree with you joe

Granted, it’s way too early to know how this kid will mesh with Jolie as a parent, and only time will tell, but I would hope alot of research and time would be spent when matching a parent to an adoptive child in determining the potential compatibility and enviroment it will be growing up in, and not doing it just because it is from a certain place on the globe. Time will tell, we can only know whether it’s a good decision with the adoptions some years later. Wish them luck.

joe… your last point reminded me of something though; that some governments are giving privellege to celebs when it comes to issues like this. The Vietnamese agencies are said to speed-up the adoption process a few times faster, while just a while ago Madonna was given similar privellege when adopting an African boy. I don’t see this as a healthy stuff… if they can be as efficient for the celebs, they should be as good for all the others.

yeah, quite agree with what ya all are arguing about.

    kampate Yummy,

Well, that’s a good point . There probably are some privlleges given to celebs for going abroad to adopt from other countries. Also, I wonder if the adoption processes in some countries in may not be as involved as they are in the U.S. anyway. I don’t know.

I think that no matter where she gets a kid from it is a good thing.Even if there are many kids that need a home in the U.S. Who cares let her and her hubby make the choice where they want another kid from. Even thought there are many kids in the U.S that doesnt mean that there are not other places where kids need homes too. They wanted their kids from places not the U.S let that be they way it is going to be. You never know they could make a choice to get another kid and it could be from the U.S. So dont get on their case about not getting a kid from the U.S they did a good thing. Getting a kid from a diffrent place that needed a home too. Now the mother of Pax wants him back if I were in their shoes I would do what every i could do to keep Pax. They will give him a better life then he could have with his really mother! They are not on drugs they are giving him and going to keep giving him the best life he can ever have!

GET OF THEIR CASE ABOUT NOT GETTING A KID FROM THE U.S. They got Pax he is not from the U.S who cares they love him they are going to give him a good life! He needed a home and he is not from the U.S. Other kids need homes and they may not be from the U.S. Her and her Brad could get another kid and he could be from the U.S. So they are doing what they can by getting more kids so more kids will have homes.
    SO GET OF THEIRE CASE AND LEAVE THEM A LONE!!!! :-}

sarah… I am not saying that adopting a non-US child is a bad thing… but try thinking that the kid will have to leave his homeland, his usual environment, his friends, his identity etc… wouldn’t it make better sense if people adopt an orphan nearby instead?

I am not sure if Pax’s mum is still alive or as you said… wanted him back. If it’s true, wouldn’t it be cruel to seperate a child with her mum simply because some other people can provide a better living environment?

I wouldn’t abandon my family even if you give me all of Bill Gate’s money.
