Andy Lau Tak Wah Biography
Andy Lau Tak Wah started his career in Hong Kong main TV production company, TVB.
After graduated from TVB acting school, Andy Lau was given chances in some supporting cast before landing his first major role in “Hunting” (1982).
Andy’s breakthrough came later in 1983 where he starred in the ever popular Wuxia drama, “The Return of the Condor Heroes.” Andy Lau instantly becomes an Asian superstar since then.
Andy Lau was also given chances on the big screen, and his first major success in movies came in 1985 with “Unwritten Law,” with another 2 sequels made. From then on Andy has made over 100 movies in his still running acting career.
There are good and bad in those 100+ films; especially when Andy Lau was young, lots of his movies are commercial basis and could be pretty lousy production. Only in recent years that Andy began to be pickier in movies, and the qualities are more guaranteed.
It was also in 1985 that Andy Lau released his first album, but it took him a few years to be recognized as an established singer.
In the 1990s, Andy Lau together with Jackie Cheung, Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok were crowned ‘4 Heavenly Kings of Cantopop’, and dominated the Hong Kong music arena until late 90s.
Andy Lau has won many musical awards in his career, but his luck with movie awards is not as splendid. His first major acting award only came in 2000, as Best Actor in Hong Kong Film Festival with movie “Running Out of Time.”
Andy Lau has always been eager to prove himself as a good actor rather than a popular idol; and after a few years of disappointment, Andy Lau finally won the prestigious Golden Horse Award in 2004 for his performance in “Infernal Affairs 3.″
Andy Lau had previously invested in movies production in early 90s but met with failure; in the past couple of years he started his own production firm again to fund new Asian directors with their movie projects, and has achieved decent success so far.

I think Andy Lau is one of the best role models in Asian entertainment world. I don’t think Andy is a talented artist, but he works hard all these years to become a good one.

i think– i don’t have it in me to be a director– bloody hard job & very long hours.. I would rather be a producer.. actually, other people were the ones who said this to me… I have such enthusiam.. & sales pitch to sell a project… ha..
well, I am intense– & have an analytical mind… maybe, it’s in my future– who knows.
i notice– Clint’s first AD– a lovely guy– youngish– Bob Lorenz now works as one of his producers. he’s worked with clint in several films including Unforgiven.

I’d say this about this about clint– he’s one super star who can really stop traffic– as old now as he is.
I just returned from living in London– breaking into work here– & was doing background– & worked on ‘In the Line of Fire’– we were shooting a short scene( Clint jumping in a cab)at LAX– the airport– we were outside– doing crosses & such & as passengers… I was sitting around waiting for Action– I looked inside the terminal– & it was a blanket of fces– with cameras in hand– I’VE NEVER SEEN SO MANY DIEFFERNT TYPES OF CAMERAS EVER– SOME WHERE EVEN S TANDING ON BINS– BENCHES– WITH STARS IN THEIR EYES– VERY ODD TO SEE IN PERSON– NEVER SAW THIS BEFORE– I LOOKED AT T HESE FACES– IT’S NOT THE OLD MAN CLINT OUTSIDE THEY ARE SEEING– BUT HIS SCREEN ROLES AS THEY WANTED TO SEE HIM… DIRTY HARRY, MAN WITH NO NAME, ETC.. ALL SO FASCINATING TO SEE..
I bet some of them missed their flights!!! later, during lunch– if they cared to look?? we were camped in the major parking lot– called as base camp– we were having lunch– & clint was there eating with us.. CLINT IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW STARS WHO ALWAYS EATS WITH HIS CREW– & HE LOVES TO EAT!!! HE QUEUES UP TO THE CATERING TRUCK, GETS HIS FOOD– NO SPECIAL TREATMENT– CLEARS HIS TAB;LE AFTER EATING & PUTS AWAY HI S TRAY– ONE TIME i SPOTTED HIM CLEANING THE BREAD CRUMBS OFF… HE LOOKED SO CUTE!
CINT IS ONE OF THE FEW & VERY RARE– WHERE HE’S SO COMFY UNDER HIS SKIN– HE’S DOWN TO EARTH– ONE LOOK AT HIM– YOU KNOW HE’S SECURE– HE DOESN’T HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO ANYONE.. HE JUST SORT OF DAWDLES THE WAY HE WALKS– WHICH I CAN IMITATE. HE CAUGHT ME DOING IT ONCE.. LOL.

I was booked on so many scenes on fire– yeah, you can even spot me in them..
But it’s as d irector? he really shines! he hires a first class crew ( his key men– he uses all the time)– & some just hired– if they were asses on other sets they were polite & very well-behaved on his sets!!! difference of night & day– lol I know who they are!
he’s very old school– he mostly stands behind the cameraman when doing scenes– not sitting in f ront of the monitor– barking orders– he never raises his voice even- he whispers.. he hops about with camera when using a steadicam. he doesn’t like a lot of takes– 2-3 are enough if that.. when I was working on this film– we were doing it for 2 days– i quipped– must be a real big scene here.. & with a lot of coverage. Having b een a actor? he trusts his– & you only want to do your best for him.. bec of it. hell, he doesn’t even direct you- he just lets you get on with it.

The problem is Truth serum is you admitted you are not a great writer. It shows. You scatter your lines all over the place, I know that Clint Eastwood is a director. You could have said you worked with him on two of the films which he directed. You said you worked with him on 3 films,, 2 as director. You see the difference?. I am a financial adviser so I do a lot of listening to others and sorting out sentences.
Just try not to scatter your points all over the place, they can easily be miscontrued.

shoot! I would never want t o be a director– when clint directs & he’s not needed for the scene??? he looks like an unmade bed.. they all do.

mind you– I lived in england for the longest time– & they never had problems with the way I write. they understood at once totally– some even asked if I was a professional writer– & they knew what they were talking about– as they dealt with writers. and they were Brits.
so I suppose– it has to do with different culture differences to be understood.

panou- I said– I am not a good typist– but an invenerate writer..
when I first arrived in London– i had a wonderful older Man friend who was like a father to me– i met him–when i wondered in his first edition bookstore off Hollywood blvd– gone now, as he passed away. he had` agreat clientele– Lee strasberg, charles bukowski, Alec guiness used to visit everytime he was in LA– one time I was there Francois Trauffaut walked in with his daughter., so many..too bad I wasn’t into acting then..
I wrote him my experiences like a ‘diary’ ( I wrote 10-15 pages–hard on stamps) & he phoned me there– asked.. what t he hell are doing modeling??? i didn’t know you can write– he knew i read.. ha.. I bought his books- later, he just gave it to me.. come back here & start writing..
did i listen??? of course not!!! ha..ha..

Hi truth serum. I read you have a Tai Seng supplier, so do I. I get all my old Taiwanese and and Hong Kong tv series from them and the old style 70ish kung fu movies as well. They are a great supplier.

JORDAN,, I SPENT A FORTUNE AT TAI SENG- THEY SENT ME THIS BOOK OF THEIR FILMS– AY! I never do anything half-ass. I ordered madly– i got to know some of them– as then i phoned in my orders.( ordering 3x awk for mos). then I discovered chinatown. bloody idiot– moi– I could have saved a lot of money.
yeah, the one who got my orders fancies Andy_ before I even checked his work- I was into tony Leung Kai fai then & discovered johnnie to’s work & CYF– well? this person told me about emily–as she saw them during his concert 2001..in san francisco.

Anonymous, Yummy is not being a hypocrite; if you would like to write something sick in here go right ahead, I will be reading it. You have just has much a right has anybody else to write in here it’s an open forum. Yummy is a good moderator. Most people write in here hoping that Andy will read what they are saying about him. Andy does not hate anybody on this site, you are all fans and he loves his fans. Fan should not care who he is in bed with its none of our business. Carol Zhu is none of our business please stop talking about her; this is not her fan club, its Andy’s. Please don’t bother about whether it is true… The truth will come out in the future… At the very least, this isn’t anything to be shameful about.” So please let it rest I agree with Yummy anything concerning Carol Zhu should be delected, enough already. The Obsession with Carol Zhu is scary, this woman is not a star or entertainer of any kind, no bodyguards. For people to want and go out and stalk her or bring harm to her is crazy. “Let It Be”. I can’t ever recall any of these people saying they believed the gossip going around, if one or two posters said stupid things like Andy married or Andy having a baby with Carol, that does not speak for the whole entire group of writes. It is not fair or wise for anyone to accuse the whole lot of believing these gossips.
I still don’t see the reason why anyone is hogging the site trying to teach anyone how to read the gossips rags. I don’t read gossip rags. A lot of us don’t. We don’t care who Andy is with or without. I don’t want or need anyone teaching me how to read anything. I could care less about truth or lies. I love Andy the artist and the humanitarian. That is what I care about. His women or lack thereof is none of mine or no one else’s business. Just as it is no one’s business to be whitewashing Zhu
I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Lau a few times and it did not go to my head. I also met my all time favorite Tony Lueng and had dinner with him and Carina Lau. Met Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat and Chen Yee Kin. Don’t like Eason Chen so much. He has a bit of an ego problem and he swears like a pirate I personally don’t care for anyone with egotistical narcassists who treat us civilians like pheasants. Met Athena Chu, she is sweet. Anita Mui, very down to earth. I slept at Leslies house one night after a party. He was so beautiful. He smoked like a chimney though. I still miss him. How sad.
Has it ever occured to anyone that the poeple who say all these things about Andy are just trying and I must say succeeding to get a gas out of some of us?. It is pathetically funny to read some of the comments.
I want to say to the mean people though. Do not say bad things about Andy to make others go of the deep end. He has not offended anyone so please stop it. Even if it gets the desired and predictable reaction, it is mean. I like to state my case and I have had a good few arguments with Tony and Leslie. I wrote a piece here and no one argued with it. If they did , they are entitled. I would not have gone on and on about it though. I made my point and that was that.
Andy is a true gentleman and had not cursed out or sued Carol. It is no one’s else responsibility to go after the woman like a pitbull. When he finds someone, like he said, he will get married or settle down and the world will know. I guess that will leave this woman in the dust. I certainly won’t want to be her. Imagine the embarrassment. Time will tell for everything, like Yummy pointed out.
This is a site to talk about and enjoy Andy, not to be mean to him, not to bash anyone he said he knows and not to be his lawyer and knight, and not to pretend to be what we are not. This needs to stop. and right now.
