Andy Lau Tak Wah Biography
Andy Lau Tak Wah started his career in Hong Kong main TV production company, TVB.
After graduated from TVB acting school, Andy Lau was given chances in some supporting cast before landing his first major role in “Hunting” (1982).
Andy’s breakthrough came later in 1983 where he starred in the ever popular Wuxia drama, “The Return of the Condor Heroes.” Andy Lau instantly becomes an Asian superstar since then.
Andy Lau was also given chances on the big screen, and his first major success in movies came in 1985 with “Unwritten Law,” with another 2 sequels made. From then on Andy has made over 100 movies in his still running acting career.
There are good and bad in those 100+ films; especially when Andy Lau was young, lots of his movies are commercial basis and could be pretty lousy production. Only in recent years that Andy began to be pickier in movies, and the qualities are more guaranteed.
It was also in 1985 that Andy Lau released his first album, but it took him a few years to be recognized as an established singer.
In the 1990s, Andy Lau together with Jackie Cheung, Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok were crowned ‘4 Heavenly Kings of Cantopop’, and dominated the Hong Kong music arena until late 90s.
Andy Lau has won many musical awards in his career, but his luck with movie awards is not as splendid. His first major acting award only came in 2000, as Best Actor in Hong Kong Film Festival with movie “Running Out of Time.”
Andy Lau has always been eager to prove himself as a good actor rather than a popular idol; and after a few years of disappointment, Andy Lau finally won the prestigious Golden Horse Award in 2004 for his performance in “Infernal Affairs 3.″
Andy Lau had previously invested in movies production in early 90s but met with failure; in the past couple of years he started his own production firm again to fund new Asian directors with their movie projects, and has achieved decent success so far.
Why I like Andy Lau Tak Wah
I think Andy Lau is one of the best role models in Asian entertainment world. I don’t think Andy is a talented artist, but he works hard all these years to become a good one.
Andy’s hardworking and professionalism has always been praised by the press, and he is always polite and well mannered in public appearance, while keeping a healthy lifestyle.

Talent is something natural… I do believe that Andy Lau works hard to become a great actor and singer, but he was not born with the talent. His singing and acting was quite naive when he was young, but now he is great.

I just love this man. He is the greatest in this world!! I can’t tell how much I love this guy and I am the probably craziest fan of all.
I fell in love with him when I was about 8 and even now that I am 32, married and have 3 kids, I am still in love with him. Isn’t that crazy, that I love someone that I don’t know more than my husband? Anyway, I just love this man and will forever.

lol Jenny… you are quite a loyal fan. Nah, idol and husband is different… that’s different kind of love. Do love your husband a bit more though :p

I have watched a lot of Andy’s movies and I agree that his lalent has improved with time. He has mellowed into a fantastic actor, and I see him as the Robert Deniro of Hong Kong cinema.
Whether he is gay is his business. I just hope if he is into men, he will tell women he is bi and give them the choice to be with him or not.

You know, sometimes I wonder if it is four yr olds who write in on some of the forums that I see. In this day and age it is amazing that there are so many naive or ignorant individuals alive. I have read many forums that say things like “he can’t be gay, he is married, she is married, he?she has kids, . He ?she has a boyfriend.
Wake up people. Homosexuality and lesbianism hides behide children and partners of the opposite sex. There are so many celebrities and non celebrities who get married to put up a front. They do that so that society does not judge them. It even happens to the common working class man and woman who are living from paycheque to paycheque. Being gay knows no social, ethnical, and cultural boundaries.
Just because a man is a highly respected, popular, famous, rich, talented and charasmatic actor and singer in Hong Kong that does not mean he is not gay. I am not saying that all the celebs in Hong Kong are gay. Some are gay, some are straight and some are bi-sexual. Some are more attracted to the same sex , but they will will marry to keep up the image respect factor. They will even have children, but their hearts and bodies really belong to someone of the same sex. They might even love their partner, they certainly love they children, but the reality is there is someone of the same gender out there who has the core of their heart. That is a fact. These are the cold hard facts of life. We need to accept them and not live in denial. We need to stop saying that this person or that person is married or have children, or have a girlfriend or boyfriend so they can’t be gay.
Maybe Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung Chia Wai, Sammi Cheng, Anita Yeun Ekin cheng and a whole lot of other Asian celebreties fit into that lifestyle, maybe not. My point is, these are people with flaws and secrets like anyone else. They are not above being attracted to someone of the same gender. We need to wake up. Have any of you watched Brokeback Mountain?. There are a lot of Jacks and Ennises out there in real life.
