Hong Kong veteran actor Kwan Hoi Shan (关海山, 1925-2006) passed away on Monday morning.
Kwan started acting in 1950s in old Canto-movies, and started acting in TV drama when he joined TVB in 1976. Throughout his acting career, Kwan appeared in over 100 movies and TV dramas.
Kwan had worked with lots of superstars like Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fatt, Tony Leung, Stephen Chow, Maggie Cheung etc.
Kwan won supporting actor in prestigious Golden Horse Award and HK Film Fest in 1991/1992.
Kwan suffered a stroke in 2001 and retired since then. He couldn’t recover fully from the stroke and left the world on September 11, 2006.
Kwan was one of my favorite veteran actor. I never watched his earlier production, but his acting in 1980s-1990s was enough to mesmerize me and his fans. Kwan mostly acted as supporting actor but his performance often became the star of the show, he’s simply a great actor.
RIP mr Kwan, I’ll definitely miss you.
