Vicki Zhao Wei Biography
Vicki Zhao Wei already started acting when she was still in Beijing Film Academy. After starring in some minor productions, Vicki Zhao was spotted by Taiwan famous author and TV producer to star in 1998 TV series “Huan Zhu Ge Ge” or “Princess Huanzhu.”
HZGG was a big hit across worldwide Chinese audience, and Vicki who played the leading role as ‘Xiao Yan Zhi’ (Little Swallow) instantly became an international superstar.
Vicki Zhao continued to star in a few TV dramas, including the popular HZGG sequel in 1999. In the same year Vicki won Best Actress in the prestigious Golden Eagle Awards in China, then the youngest actress ever to receive the honor.
Vicki Zhao released her first solo album in 1999 as well, she released her 6th and latest album back in July 2006. Although quite popular as a singer in Mainland China, Vicki’s singing career didn’t prosper as well internationally.
Vicki’s acting career seemed unstoppable though, in year 2000 Vicki made her big screen debut in “The Duel,” starring alongside Hong Kong popular actors Andy Lau and Ekin Cheng.
In 2001 Vicki starred in Stephen Chow’s popular movie “Shao Lin Soccer” and Zhao Wei was getting more and more popular internationally.
Vicki Zhao then suffered a mini crisis in her career in late 2001 when she photoshot for a magazine cover wearing a design adapted from Japanese war flag. Apparently Mainland Chinese had yet to forgive the Japanese for their country invasion in 1930s/40s and Vicki was accused of betrayal and some extremist went to the extend throwing shit on her.
Although feeling sorry, Vicki was perhaps more disappointed with how she was treated in the incident… but her acting career didn’t end there. After the event Vicki became a more mature lady, which was actually something good for both her acting career and personal life.
In 2002 she starred in a Hollywood collaboration movie, “So Close” that also featured Shu Qi and Karen Mok. In 2003, Vicki starred in another big production “Warriors of Heaven and Earth.” Although both movies weren’t boxoffice blockbuster hit, Vicki started to gain fame in worldwide non-Chinese community.
Vicki Zhao then took a big U-Turn and focused back to her career in China, starring in smaller budget movies and started acting in TV series again. Vicki showed the Chinese audience how well she progressed in all these years and reclaimed her status as one of the top China actress.
In 2006 Vicki made a surprise move to pursue her master degree in Beijing, and it was a decision that’s warmly welcomed by her fans and Chinese press as education is highly emphasized in the China society.
Vicki is back to acting again in mid-2007, starring in high budget movie “The Battle of Red Cliff,” directed by renowned director John Woo.
Vicki Zhao is a great actress, and she opened the path for China actress into international starhood… her contribution to the China TV and movie industry is undeniable. Good thing is, Vicki still has plenty of talents to show and rewrite her entertaiment record book.
Why I like Vicki Zhao Wei
I like Vicki Zhao since the TV drama Huan Zhu Ge Ge, she was cute and acted really well back then.
Vicki has changed a lot since those early years; she lost some weight and groomed into a beautiful and elegant lady, and her acting is ever improving as well.
Vicki Zhao has been focusing her career in China for the last 2 years, perhaps it’s time for her to go international again, her oversea fans must be missing her.

Hi, I am a new fan of Zhao Wei or rather Vicki Zhao. I had seem her movies & 2 of her series. She is a beautiful & everything is prefect about her. I recently saw an old series of hers entilted:- “Romance In The Rain” with Leo (TVB actor) & it was a nice watching her acting with Leo. Both are prefect for each other in this love story. I had watched 2 times (VCD). I hope to find a DVD of this series too, for my collection.

Not sure about Longest Night in Shanghai… what I know is the “Red Cliff” directed by John Woo. It’s a huge production, so it’s very likely to be released internationally.

Red Cliff is based on epic novel “Romance of 3 Kingdoms,” which is based on the history during the war time at the end of the Han Dynasty through to the birth of another dynasty.
Red Cliff is the location of one of the most crucial and famous battle during that period that shaped the 3 kingdoms during the war.
Vicki will be playing as supporting role in the movie.

No idea about that particular book, but it’s common for stars to have a biography or a photo-book nowadays… so I am not surprise if there are a few books about Vicki, she is so famous afterall.

pichy-pichy… if you say worldwide, certainly Ziyi is more famous. I don’t think many Westerners know who’s Vicki.
There are some Chinese that don’t like Ziyi, but most Chinese do love her I guess.

Yummy, Well, I can see how that might would be a trademark. Kind of sets her apart from others and is a good selling point. Makes her unique among the others singers. ..I do think she is cute. Funny thing is, if I ever met her (which would never happen, lol) and got to know her, those big eyes may become the most lovely part of her to me. You never can tell about those things. But just in general, looking at her pictures etc, it’s not my type of look. You know what I mean.
pitchy-pitchy, lol. I don’t have a problem. I just don’t find those kind of very big eyes all that appealing to me. As they say, personal preference.
I think it’s great some people find different types of girls pretty. I try not to question other people’s preferences,…I just express my own. Peace as Yummy said.

Well, I can understand that. I don’t like people critisizing my favorite stars either. But I know I can’t change that so I try to just blow it off. People aren’t gonna always like what I like. In fact most of the time they don’t , LOL.
But…nobody likes being attacked for having their own opinions either. Seems that would hurt someone even more. You can understand that I’m sure.
I try to never ‘viciously’ attack the stars like I see some people doing to them. (like the Zhang Ziyi or Rainie Yang threads if you wanna see some really un-called for and ugly remarks against those ladies) I just don’t understand all that and it just seems kinda useless cause it’s not gonna hurt them anyway. They already know they can’t please everyone.
But I think it’s ok for people to say hey, my personal opinion of that celebrity is I don’t care for them because of this reason or that. It’s just the way things are, lol.

There are no need for a good reason to hate a person, or in a celebrity in this case… it’s just a matter of personal preference. Even a nice person will have his/her haters, just a fact of life.

Also, sarah, you’re right I do get mad when someone critisizes my favorite celebrities. (I can’t really say “idol” cause I don’t idolize them). So I know what you, pitch-pitch and others feel, as I already explained in my other post.
And just for the record..a couple of my favorite stars on this site have been critisized very badly and attacked many times over and over again. Much worse than ‘anything’ I would say about a celebrity. Some comments about my celebrities have been just plain hateful, and racist and whatever to the point of being rediculous…calling names like “whore”, “discrace to the race”, “having a fat face”, “teeth the color of corn” , evil eyes” etc etc. Crazy stuff.
But I never have let it bother me too much. Cause for one, they aren’t critisizms or attacks on me so it doesn’t really matter. Secondly, I figure those hateful comments are meant to start a fight anyway and I’m not going give ‘em that satisfaction or lose any sleep over it. And third, I know I like my celebrities and that’s all that matters. And they’re just celebrities..who I don’t even know. So, my life doesn’t revolve around them.
But I know how you feel and I appreciate your comment also. It’s hard to accept that not everybody shares the same opinions about our celebrities sometimes. But it’s just reality and really not that big a deal in the bigger picture of life. :) Hope you understand that..Peace to you

That fellow is Li Quan, music producer. Rumored to be Vicki’s bf but their agent said that they are just friends.
That photo… is said to be taken when Vicki lost her contact lense and couldn’t see the road probably, thus holding his hands for guidance.
