Hu DeFu, 17th Taiwan Golden Melody AwardsThe prestigious 17th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards was held on Saturday (June 10) at Taipei, with Chinese artists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia competing in 31 music categories.

Taiwan folklore godfather Hu DeFu, nicknamed Kimbo was the night big winner, taking home 2 awards with Best Song of The Year and Best Lyric with “Pacific Wind.”

American borned Taiwanese Wang LeeHom won the Best Mandarin Male Vocalist; while Singaporean Tanya Chuah (Tanya Chai) won the Best Mandarin Female Vocalist.

This is the 2nd Best Mandarin Male Singer Award for LeeHom after 7 years since his first, while Tanya continues the legacy of Singaporean winning the Best Mandarin Female Singer (Stephanie Sun won it last year).

David Tao, nominated for 6 awards managed to get the Best Album with “The Great Leap 2005″ in the modern music category. David was not at the event to receive his award, and was represented by his father Tao Da-Wei.

The Malaysians also didn’t went home empty handed, songwriter-singer Penny Tai won the Best Composer with “Crazy Love” while Lim Yee Chung claiming the Best New Performer.

Taiwanese talented singer Cheer Chen although lost to Tanya in Best Female Vocalist, her album “A Fabulous Adventure” won 2 awards for Best Producer to Zhong ChengHu and Best MV to Shu JunTeng.

The award presentation lasted 4 hours long which was a bit boring sometimes, but a few of the guest performances were pretty entertaining nonetheless.

    Did anyone find that Halellujah song annoying?? Thay make this almost evrytime to make the winners rush their winning speach

    Yupe the hallelujah song was definitely annoying and I think it’s very rude to constantly interrupt the award winners giving their speech.

    And also the award winners were just giving a very short time while the awards presentors wasted so many time talking rubbish, I think it’s unfair.
