Idol finalist Katharine Mcphee signed a record deal

Katharine McpheeSometimes it’s ok to come 2nd. Katharine Mcphee, the “American Idol” runner-up who lost to Taylor Hicks in the season finale has just signed a record deal.

Katharine is signing for music mogul Clive Davis in conjunction with 19 Recordings Unlimited, the label managed by “Idol” creator Simon Fuller.

Taylor Hicks has also signed the record deal as a reward for winning the American Idol talent quest, he is the 5th winner of the US most popular tv show cum singing contest.

It came not so much as a suprise for Katharine to get a record deal, as last year competition already saw the precedent of both finalist getting a record deal.

Last season country singer Carrie Underwood beat rocker Bo Bice with a narrow margin, both of them already released their respective album.

This year competition was equally tight, it’s difficult to predict the final winner until the last 2 weeks of the show.

It’s said that Katharine Mcphee, 22, California native will be recording 2 singles and release it on June 27.
