This got to be the weirdest movie awards ever! The 59th Cannes Film Festival awarded their best actor award to 5 actors while best actress award to 6 actresses.
Winning the best actorS were awarded to the French-Arab male cast of “Days of Glory,” led by comedian Jamel Debbouzel; while the best actressES were awarded to the entire female cast of “Volver,” led by Penelope Cruz.
According to head judge, Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai.. the chemistry between the actors and actresses are important to produce the sparkles and emotions of a film, and the panel of judges felt that it’s an appropriate form of awarding the cast.
Well it’s an interesting point of view I must say, perhaps we will see more of this kind of best actors/actresses awards in the future.
Btw, best film award, the Palme d’Or went to British director Ken Loach’s “The Wind That Shakes The Barley” with a unanimous decisions.
