Despite all the critics and protest, “The Da Vinci Code” topped the US box office with $77 million and hauls in $224 million worldwide.
The controversial movie based on Dan Brown’s same title novel is the largest weekend opening in US so far this year, and according to Sony pictures.. the 2nd largest worldwide opening, just behind “Star Wars: Episode III.”
Movie critics and worldwide bloggers are having mixed opinions with the movie, but mostly bending towards bad rating.
Yet the popularity of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code novel and the controversial it sparkled is enough to persuade movie goers to purchase the ticket.
The Da Vinci Code was premiered last Thursday at the 59th Cannes Film Festival.

I can’t really say that I’m surprised The Da Vinci Code opened so well despite the harsh reviews and protests. It just goes to show that substance and originality aren’t requirements for success in Hollywood.
