The 59th Cannes Film Festival kicked off with the controversial movie “The Da Vinci Code.”
The Da Vinci Code, based on bestseller Dan Brown’s novel, has created whirlwind debates around the globe, with protest against the novel and movie for distorting the facts about Jesus and Christianity.
While lots of the Da Vinci Code fans were anticipating the movie for months, all those hype and protest actually provided the movie with enormous free publicity.. something that perhaps the production studio Sony Pictures would be happy about.
The Da Vinci Code Director Ron Howard and cast of stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Paul Bettany and Jean Reno are all in Cannes for the movie premiere.
The movie critics however didn’t seemed to be impressed with The Da Vinci Code after the opening show for Cannes, quoted from Stephen Schaefer of the Boston Herald..
Nothing really works. It’s not suspenseful. It’s not romantic. It’s certainly not fun
The annual Cannes Film Fest will also be a showcase for bunch of other movies, some of the anticipated are in-competition epic “Marie Antoinette,” starring Kirsten Dunst.. and also the worldwide premiere of “X-Men: The Last Stand.”
