Say hi to Dr. Jodie Foster. Oscar winner Jodie Foster received an honorary doctor of arts degree from University of Pennsylvania.
Jodie Foster was also selected as the commencement speaker, and she suprised everyone by ending her address with the chorus of rapper Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” from “8 Mile,” the semi-autobiographical 2002 film in which Eminem starred.
The 43-year-old actress started her speech by taking photos of the graduates from the podium, earning a good laugh from her fellow graduates. Foster then spoke of her own years at Yale before turning serious note on the country and world development.. and ended with the Eminem rap.
The Penn seniors had been reported skeptical by Foster’s selection as commencement speaker when it was announced earlier this year, but she received a standing ovation after her speech. (probably for the Eminem rap lol)
Jodie Foster won Oscar best actress twice, with “The Accused” in 1988 and “The Silence of the Lambs” in 1991. The Silence of the Lambs has always been one of my favorite movie.
UPDATE.. found the rap video on YouTube, pretty clumsy actually. Not everyone can rap like Eminem perhaps.

Ya gotta laugh when you read some of the above comments—-lol the lady was thrust into the political spotlight some twenty odd years ago and not by choice—she is probably one of the few uniquely qualified out of hollywood to speak—-too bad so few are so ignorant in relation to us history—but then havent most turned their backs on james brady—no ms foster—and ps she was always white middle upper class—she and marshall have the commoness of coming from single parents who struggled not to fade into poverty—high five ms. foster for being so gutsy—I read “why me?” AND am damn glad you chose to speak at UofP…thanks
