Australian actress Naomi Watts has agreed to be a special representative for the Joint United Nations Program on Aids (UNAIDS).
The 37-year-old King Kong star will use her celebrity status to raise Aids awareness and champion the needs of Aids patients worldwide.
It’s estimated that 40 million people are currently infected with HIV virus or Aids, and more than 20 million have died since it was first recognised.
The organisation’s other special representatives include Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and Mstislav Rostropovich, the Russian musician and human rights activist.
