“A Moment To Remember” was a Korean movie released in Korea late 2004 and showed across Asia in mid 2005.
The movie is directed by John H. Lee and starred actor Jung Woo-sung and actress Son Ye-jin. It was a huge box office success across Asia, regarded by many as the best Korean romance movie of the year.
It’s a long story (around 2 hours) and the tempo is a bit slow.. but definitely worth watching till the end, it’s touching..
Kim Su-jin (Son Ye-jin) just broke up with her married lover, and bumped into Chol-soo (Jung Woo-sung) in a dramatic style, with a bit of misunderstanding perhaps.
Su-jin and Chol-soo met again later, apparently Chol-soo worked as a foreman under supervision of Su-Jin’s father. Despite early misunderstanding, Su-jin later was attracted with Chol-soo’s masculine attitude and decisive character.. Chol-soo on the other hand had feelings for Su-jin too. Love started to sparkle between them.
Despite some obtacles, the couple got married and live happily ever after.. NOPE.
Su-jin found out that her forgetfulness (since the beginning of the movie) was getting worse and decided to consult doctor.. and here came the bad news, she’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and is set to lose her memories bit by bit. Su-jin was heartbroken and decided to hide the news from Chol-soo..
Well Chol-soo later found out the news, despite being shock both of them decided to stay together and Chol-soo showed his commitment and wanted to take care of Su-jin for the rest of her life.
It’s not as easy as expected to handle the issue.. things went harsh for both Su-jin and Chol-soo, and in the end…
It’s not a typical romance story, the first half of the movie is cute and joyous, but the 2nd half is actually quite saddening.
The director offered a lot of rooms to ponder about, he is obviously not just trying to draw tears from the audience, but really to make the audience think about the kind of love that revolves in the toughest of times.
The ending is a bit unrealistic, well perhaps it’s the best ending for the movie.. a bit of romance ending perhaps, and a glimmer of hope.
And not to forget about the actor and actress, Jung Woo-sung and Son Ye-jin did remarkably well with the movie, and their effort paid off.. they are becoming Asian superstar now.
Definitely a movie worth watching.

i dont usually watch those kind of movies where one of the lovers dies of a disease or whatever because it’s too common (especially korean drama.. happen to often).. however, i’m making an unexception since it’s a son ye jin movie.. trully the story line is not that great, however, i love the chemistry between son ye jin and the leading actor.. very touching… love a good ending.. over all 8.5/10
