British band Coldplay’s “X&Y” was the world’s best selling album of 2005.

According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) reports, the album sold 8.3 million copies worldwide, beating the likes of Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi (7.7 million) and 50 Cent’s The Massacre (7.5 million).

X&Y was Coldplay’s 3rd album and was released last June.

IFPI figures also showed that digital music sales had tripled last year but overall global music sales were down 3%.
