Amuro Namie Biography
Amuro Namie started performing at the age of 12 in a little Okinawan supermarket. At 15, Amuro and 4 classmates from her acting school formed a group called the “Super Monkeys,” and their songs received some public interest in Tokyo.
The Super Monkeys also attracted the attention of music mogul Tetsuya Komuro, who decided to mentor Amuro into a superstar. The remainders of the Super Monkeys were later reformed as a girl group “MAX” and achieved decent success of their own.
Tetsuya Komuro first production for Amuro, “Body Feels Exit,” exploded her into Japanese music scene. Amuro’s music dominated Japanese music charts and became Japanese music top seller in 1996.
Amuro Namie was not just famous for her music, but also her fashion & style. Amuro was a fashion icon among teenage girls with highlighted hair, thin eye brows, tan skin, short skirts and high boots. The trend (or followers) was named Amuras or Amuroers, and can still be seen everywhere in Asia nowadays.
In late 1997, Amuro shocked her fans by announcing her marriage (and pregnancy) with Sam, dancer from popular band TRF, she gave birth to her child Haruto in May 1998.
In December 1998 Amuro made her comeback with single “I Have Never Seen” which debuted as a #1 hit. Things were however not the same again, although still very popular, Amuro was no longer the pop-diva that dominated Japanese music, facing fierce rivalry from then rising star Ayumi Hamasaki.
In 1999, Amuro decided to make improvements with her music and worked with American producer Dallas Austin to bring more R&B into Japan music scene. Before she could produce anything, Amuro was shocked by terrible news that her mother (Japanese-Italian mixed) was brutally murdered and it slowed down Amuro’s ambition in her music career.
Amuro ended her collaboration with mentor Tetsuya Komuro in 2001 and in 2002 she shocked the Japanese music scene again with pseudonym “Suite Chic.” Suite Chic was an R&B project where Amuro worked with numerous Japanese R&B and Hip Hop artist to produce a few singles and an original album.
Amuro Namie divorced with her husband, Sam in July 2002.
Suit Chic project was ended in 2003 with success and Amuro was back to solo. She released her first original album in three years, “Style” end of 2003, followed by series of singles and 2005 album, “Queen of Hip Pop.”
Amuro Namie is also famous for her annual concert tour, she only missed it during her pregnancy, and her concert never failed to attract full house of fans and audience.
Amuro Namie created another record in early 2007 for becoming the first ever artist to have a Top 10 Singles at ORICON chart for 13 consecutive years.
Why I like Amuro Namie
Amuro Namie is one of the pioneer that brings Japanese pop-culture into Asia.
As mentioned earlier, Amuro’s style can still be seen everywhere on streets nowadays, and she was also one of the main reason I started to look into Japanese pop.
I am not a fan of Hip Hop or R&B so I am not that fond of her music now, but her comeback story from a setback career to the peak success is something remarkable, and truely wins my admiration.

:+:Aldaris:+: ,
what is the connection of Yi Fei and those animals you are talking about?!
It seems yhat you are tryying to say something not-so-good, am I right?
I think Yi Fei is a pet a lover because I saw this video in yahoo wherein she’s playing with this dog but I am not sure if she owns that dog but she looks happy.
Wel, I just notice that this is not Yi Fei’s section but I wonder why everyone’s talking about Yi Fei here.
Guys, post the message on Yi Fei’s.
Tha’s all.

But she’s not old now, so let her do what she wants.
It’s not like she’s a slut.
And Gackt matches with Hyde. [nods]
Namie’s awesome as hell. :3
November 19th, 2007 at 11:50 am
she has a kid and is still being revealing? dude thats just not right. what kind of example is she giving her kid? what that he should only be into girls that are wear slutty stuff? well namie amuro’s not slutty but some girls who wear that are and i don’t think he would want a girlfriend in the future that cheats on him every other night.
November 20th, 2007 at 6:15 am
Year i agree ,she has kid.But look at Britney Spears she has kid too and still gets in trouble .She already lost kid to child custody. K- fed now has her kid.

December 25th, 2007 at 10:43 am
hey yummy u seem really wise could i ask u a qestion
i really want to be a j pop singer i’m 16 already.
my parents tells me to just study hard and go to college.
i really like singing everyone tells me i’m good.
i like singing since i was a kid.
it’s a big risk cuz i don’t know how to start my career..
my plan is to go to japan and audition to be a star.
i like singing so much i would die if i can’t sing anymore.
i only speak enlish and i taking japanese class now.
everything i do is for my career of singing.
some people say i can’t be a j-pop cuz i’m not even japanese.
i want to be #1 at japan….
so should i carrid strongly to my dream or think of something els too.
could you guys give me some tip to help me on my career?
thank you
yummy could u give me some tip on how to start my career.
December 25th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
luv… how sure are you that you are good? Your friends might be saying that you are good for the sake of friendship.
Go out and take part in some singing competitions… if you can win a few or at least do reasonably well, perhaps you can seriously consider a singing career by then.
Besides, you don’t have to give up either studying or singing… both stuff can be done together if you managed your time properly.
I can’t give you good advice on how to start your career.
December 26th, 2007 at 2:17 am
well i did alot of stage performances since i was young and the people like me. they all i tell me i’ll make it to a j-pop 1000%. no body has ever tell me i suck even my school music teacher say i should become a singer.
the only hard part is i don’t know where to audition or how to find a audition. do i have to pay for auditions. well do u think it’s possible that i could be as big as koda kumi and them oneday even if i’m not japanese and don’t even know japanese that well.
well thank you for the advice.
in my head it seems like i could just audition get in and sign a contract and then begin my career as a singer. it’s not that easy huh?
well no matter how hard it is i will work hard on my singing..
and oneday i’ll be japan #1.
thank you so much yummy….
December 26th, 2007 at 2:21 am
um yummy i know this is too much to ask but could i send you a couple of my songs and you could tell me what you think of them..
this is really important to me…
December 26th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
luv… why J-pop if you are not a Japanese? Why not just focus on your local music arena first?
It’s easy to go for an audition… it’s not easy to pen a contract.
Upload your music somewhere and post the link here.
December 26th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
yummy i disagree. i think you could be anything u wish to be.
even if luv is not japanese she could become a really popular japanese singer.
luv work really hard
never give up and someday you will be a really cool japanese singer.
are you from american?
yea that cool i loveee japanese singers.
i believe you will make it
December 26th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
yuki… yes, luv could still become a popular J-pop singer even if she is not Japanese. My question is however… why Japan? It would be easier if she use her own language at her homeland.
Besides, staying positive is good… but being logical is equally important.
December 26th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
what do u meant by music arena?
like your own lanage first
December 27th, 2007 at 2:19 am
hey i hear that j-pop are so poor some of them have to strave if they don’t have another job to support them. but howcome i hear that koda kumi and boa make so much money? so it’s fake.
if j-pop makes no money then what’s the point of being one?
i don’t understand?
December 27th, 2007 at 9:11 am
everyone wants to have fame and fans.
everyone wishes to be a jpop singer.
are you ready to face the long hard messy journey.
remember singing is not alway about the fame on stage.
sometimes they get pussure so much by their company.
but luv just do what you love. can’t wait to hear your voice.
remember you don’t have to be the best singer to make it to the top.
am i right yummy! hey yummy have you ever think of being a singer when your young.
December 27th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Yes, I am questioning the logic to build your singing career in Japan when you can’t speak Japanese.
It’s true that you might not need to be the best singer to make it to the top, but you must at least be good. Entertainment world is about the whole package… talent, look, attitude and lots of luck.
Superstars will get very rich… stars with some fame should still do reasonably well… but there will always be large numbers of singers that couldn’t make it to fame and have to find other ways to survive, or to give up their dream completely. That’s life.
Nope I have never thought of becoming a singer or a star. I don’t like to be at the center of attention.
December 27th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
ha ha whao yummy that’s scary “give up on your dream completely”.
i bet luv is scare to death right now! probably having secong thoughts but than again you would never know ontill you try it for yourself. but yummy life as a singer only has 2 road, fail or win. i could see what luv is thinking right now.
Her dream is to be a big singer at japan.
but there are so many people going for the same dream
if she fail then she won’t ba able to catch up with the other people cause she has spend too much time on singing then studying. wow Its such a big risk. yummy do you think it’s wroth it to take this BIG BIG BIG risk.
December 27th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
As said… I believe singing and studying can co-exist. We can continue our study while pursuing our dream.
Besides, if the dream is important enough… go for it, but be prepared.
Hope for best, prepare for the worst.
December 28th, 2007 at 6:09 am
prepare for what
what could happen
what should jpop perpare for that bad.
December 28th, 2007 at 6:24 am
is it possible to audition for 2 years and never make it into being a star or getting into the auditions.
u guys think 2 years of auditioning could get a person into not all but at least one audition.
howcome people say you could be what ever you wish too.
never give up and someday you’ll get there.
failure is not losing but giving up.
do you think that’s true.
December 28th, 2007 at 10:35 am
Prepare that you could never become J-pop artist no matter how hard you try.
Wish is not enough, you need to work really really hard. Don’t play with words… all those quotable quotes are rubbish if you keep talking only… you need to turn your wish into action.
We are turning circles in these conversations… keep talking the same thing again and again… what’s the point? Make up your mind and start working.
December 28th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
hahahah thank you soo much..thank you so much yummy for your advice.
i will try my best to be a jpop. i really hope you guys would support me in the future. ah haha yea i’m a bit scare of never making it. but i think it’s wroth it to take a try beside i don’t think i’m that bad. umm i don’t know how to perpare because i have never think of anything other than singing. i don’t know what lies ahead but i will try my hardest to make my dream come true. yummy sorry to waste your time. well in the mean time sai yo na da wish me luck tobe a star. i will make it i believe i can.

Seriously, people need to stop judging Namie or writing things they clearly know nothing about. 1. Namie’s image is not slutty or revealing (never once will you see her exposed body besides arms, legs or even rarer belly shots); she is not Madonna, Britney or Koda Kumi (no offense to these ladies either; they have their own style/image); there a difference between sexy and slutty people. Also, her professional, mature “sexy” image is not her private image. Her image is as it is to suit her music and style as part of the artist “namie amuro”.
2. How can you judge her as a parent base on assumptions and preconceive ideas? This whole -she must stay at home and give up her career to be a mom- is BS. As a divorce lady, she has the right to choose her life. A good mother can be an excellent mother while at the same time maintaining her career. She’s strong enough to support herself, her son and her dreams. Also good for us fans that at enjoy her music/performance.
