Ha Ji-won Biography
Ha Ji-won started acting in 2000 as supporting role and won a few awards for performances in movies “Ditto” (best supporting actress) and “Truth Game” (best newcomer).
Ha Ji-won landed her leading play in 2002 movie “Phone” that made her into superstar status in Korea.
Ha Ji-won become popular in Asia with TV drama “Damo” in 2003, where she played a female cop in the 17th century. Her performance in the TV series was superb and shaped the benchmark for Korean WuXia (martial arts) movies and dramas.
Despite gaining fame in Asia, Ha Ji-won rarely steps out of Korea. Her acting career is still booming since 2003, involving in a few movies and TV dramas, including the popular series “Memories of Bali.”
Ha Ji-won also started singing in 2005, her singing career is however not as successful as her acting career yet.
Ha Ji-won latest TV drama is “Hwang Jin-i,” which started showing in Korea late 2006 and received good ratings. Her latest movie “Miracle of 1st Street” is doing well also, topping the box-office chart for consecutive weeks since February 2007.

I started to like Ha Ji-won after watching TV drama Damo, which remains as my favorite dramas starring Ji-won.
It’s hard to define her beauty actually… not stunning, but eye-pleasing. She’s a good actress though, that’s for sure.

The first time I have seen here in Philippines was in the series Memories of Bali when it was shown here at ABS-CBN.. I love this woman who is full of oozing talents. From then I try my best collecting CDS of her movies and dramas.. Among the most watched was DAMO, DUELIST, Daddy Long Legs .. I try to download also her CFs.. No wonder lately European Film Makers had been raving her as the PEARL OF ASIA with her gallantry performance in DUELIST which at this time is being aired in FRANCE and followed in JAPAN.

i fell in love with her for her performance in Memories of Bali after that i started going to websites that is all about her. i’ve watched some of her movies including, Ditto, The Phone and the Duelist. for me, she is the most beautiful and most amazing actress in Korea. hope to see her soon in another drama, and i wish it would be with Jo In Sung or Kwon Sang Woo. but i’ve already heard she is doing a movie with JIS. i’ve also heard that she turned down an offer to do a period drama with Bae Yong Joon and opted to do a movie instead with JIS.

My fave korean actress. First saw her when I was in the Phils on a holiday. It was her series Memories of Bali. What a cast…. handsome Jo In Sung & So Ji Sub. After that I got hooked watching Korean tv series and movies. Started collecting all of her movies and series on dvd and surfing the internet for news.

I really like this girl! She is so adorable…She`s good in acting! She is practically good at everything -drama, comedy, action, dancing, and oh well.. I heard she sings too. I haven’t heard her singing though. I don’t think I would appreciate her songs because I can’t understand the language. The first time I saw Ha Ji Won about six years ago. She was in a korean drama with Kim Ha Neul. I don’t remember the drama’s name, but I couldn’t forget her after that. She was so beautiful even her character was an antagonist person on that drama. When she was in “Sex Is Zero” oooooh…hoooooot man! I watched her every drama and movies with different characters and damn she was so great. I love her so much.

I have already watched ‘Hwang Jin-i’. Ha Ji Won is so amazing!The reason why I adore her is that she’s a chameleon. She can do any movie genre without batting her eyelashes.

I have read a comment about 200 Pounds Beauty. It says it had lots of nominations and awards, but accordingly it says it doesn’t deserve to have them and in fact there are other more interesting and really good movies aside from it. Anyway, I can’t judge it yet since I haven’t watch it but I will soon. By then I can say something…
I have read the synopsis of the “Secret” and I wasn’t attracted by it. But the fact that Ha Ji Won plays a vallainess, that’s something I wouldn’t want to miss. The protagonist in this series is Kim Ha Neul, right? Do you happen to know if they are friends in real life. They also starred in Ditto, right?

Actually 200 didn’t win many awards in the end… the leading actress Kim Ah-jong won most best actress awards though.

So the one I read was just misleading. Anyway, that’s why I don’t rely much on the internet. But the thing is, I did rely on that thing…=(
I have already watched ‘200…’. And I liked it. It’s funny though it tackled serious issue, that’s having plastic surgery. The concept of putting a heavy thing into a different genre made it interesting. It may be irritating or degrading to some, but the fact that it is being put ‘on the spot light’ makes it a real issue to be concerned of.
Honestly, I don’t hate people who undergoes plastic surgery. It’s only a matter of choice…to risk…everything maybe. It’s people’s choice to face the consequences of having plastic surgery… may it be good or bad.
I can’t wait to watch ‘Ditto’ and ‘The Phone’..

What I think is that people need to have confident with their looks, and there are other things that make a person a real man (or woman) beside the appearances.
However… if going for plastic can make that person feel much confident, I would say ‘go ahead’.

Korean citizens prefer Ha Ji-won´s interpretation in the television version made via in a telephone survey that Ha Ji-won´s acting skills, good outfits and colourful play also win over younger sister Song´s film version by one level.
Song Hye Kyo starring in the film version of “Hwang” premiered in June in South Korea. Up until last Sunday, approximately 630,000 people have watched it. Audience viewer-ship could not surpass half of that of the Hollywood animation film(I think it was Shrek 3: 史力加3) that was premiered on the same day. Respondents pointed out that Ha Ji-won´s skillful acting, expressions, movements and her interpretation of jealous, tragedy and triumph with great accuracy. In contrast, Song Hye Kyo although has made progress but it is still insufficient.

Actually it’s hard to compare the performance in a drama and movie.
Although I always believe Ha Ji-won is a better actress than Song Hye-kyo (she is good too)… but drama allows the audiences to understand more about the character gradually, while in movie SHK will have to create an immediate buzz and strong image within 2 hours… which is definitely tougher. Ha Ji-won does have some advantage because of that.

Very well said. I haven’t watched Song Hye-kyo’s movie yet. I just wonder why her success on her TV series does not extend to success on any of her movie..I have some perception beyond this, but I won’t tell… But if you’ll guess, you’re definitely right, judging from what I’ve been telling on all of Ha Ji-won’s account.
I hate comparing actresses, but I can’t help it when bad things are being said about my favorite actress. Am I being a real huge fan of Ha Ji-won?

You’re right that it’s hard to resist not to compare Ha Ji-won and Song Hye-kyo since they portrayed the same character. However, I feel like I’ve done so much nasty thing to Song Hye-kyo. If you’ll just visit the account about Ha Ji-won vs Song Hye-kyo in Hwang Jin-i, I think I went too far. Now, I begin to realize that idolizing a certain actress would be futile if I keep throwing evil comments to someone who’s an actress as well.
It is right to comment on the acting or whatever of actors, but I think it’s not right to completely detest them.
Honestly, I have said terrible things about Song Hye-kyo, but I did admit that she’s a still beauty to behold.
Now, I can say that I don’t hold any grudge to anyone who doesn’t like Ha Ji-won or to someone who likes actors I don’t really like. Moreover, I don’t really detest actors themselves, but I hate how they act or ….

Hwang Jin I’s Ha Ji Won wins Golden Chest Prizes Best Actress Award
KBS announced on the 5th that Ha Ji Won who played the role of Hwangjiny in the KBS drama series won the Best Actress Award at the 32nd Annual Golden Chest Prizes.
The Golden Chest International Television Festival hosted by BNT (Bulgarian National Television) is one of Europe’s most prestigious international festivals for television dramas and documentaries. Actors are nominated by the Union of the Bulgarian Actors.
In 2005, Bae Jong Ohk also received the Best Actress Award through the KBS drama “The House I Lived In.”

Wow!..that is good news. Congrats! Ha Ji Won. I hope she will win an award for the movie “Miracle on 1st Street”. I thought she was pretty good..well she is good in most of the character that she plays. I love her especially in “Duelist”…thats when she really caught my fullest attention.
Any news on her upcoming movies or dramas for 2008? If I was a director..I would pair up Jo In sung and Ha Ji Won in again…since the drama series “Something Happened in Bali” was such a tragic and shocking ending. They should reunite again in a drama with lesser harsh ending..hehe. Gosh! I can’t get over the ending of “Something Happend in Bali” if though it was like 3 years ago. I totally had a depression syndrome…hehe.

I think Eun ho is good too, but I think Ha Ji Won is a better actress because she can be versatile in her character that she plays in movies and dramas. She always up for a challenge to play different role. And it has shown that she does it well. Know wonder why they call her the “Queen of Horror”, and “Pearl of Asia”…cause she can fit almost any role. I hope she will continue with her great acting skills and always challenge herself and definitely love to see her in more drama/movie. This is just my opinion.

Both Shiri and Damo were old. Shiri was a great movie… but if I remember correctly Ha Ji-won wasn’t in it.

Shiri is supposedly a TV series patterned to the US series CSI. However, as Yummy mentioned, the stars are quite busy and thus, the said series is yet to be pushed through.

Really? I wonder why they do that for. I heard she is going to be the leading role in a first Korean disaster movie “Haeundae’ centers on a tsunami that wipe South Korea’s beach. I think U.S.-based Polygon Entertainment is handling most or all the special effects along with Korean shingle Doosabu Film. Must have a good graphic effect, hope the storyline will be good. As far as I know, Ha Ji-won’s movie ‘Babo’ hasn’t been cancelled yet. You can check it at koreanfilm.org to find out when it will gonna be released. If I’m not mistaken it will be shown during fall season so that will be almost by the end of the year.

In “Hwang Jin-i”..Ha Ji Won showed a different side of her acting skill!! Never knew that she had that in her!! Ha Ji Won..fighting!! I hope she has more opportunity to act in those kind of shows!! Thanks Cheiri. I guess HJW will be busy this year with her movies. Will she being doing any drama this year? I hope she does…if she does hopefully she does a comedy drama for a change. Most of the drama she did in the past year was good but depressing. I want to see her a comedy drama…something alittle bit different. I am pretty sure she can take on any role and do it well.

Ha Ji Won has the mystique, chameleonlike attraction to many viewers like me and to others. I have heard the same comments from my friends who have watched a number of her dramas like Damo and Memories in Bali. She is a very versatile actress. She can be in heavy drama, action packed drama or romantic comedy. I hope to see her in a romantic comedy type drama in the near future. I have yet to see some more of her movies and K-dramas.
More power to you HJW! Keep up the good work. You are gaining more and more fans for your superb acting skills. I have watched over twenty Korean dramas since I got addicted to it. So far I rate you as the No. 1 actress when it comes to beauty and acting. Good luck to you and God bless you!

Just a feeling… HJW seems more mature; not just the age or look, but mentally as well… her way of speaking, her style of doing things etc.
JIS are still a bit ‘young’ in some sense.

In some sense thats true…but after watching her interview and ngs…I feel that she still have that “fun” youthful personality similar to JIS, sometimes JIS can be ablittle bit shy…hehe. Somewhat I feel they have somekind of connection or similiarity… it seems like they are very comfortable with each other, always be laughing with eacth other or laughing at each other…hehe.

The synopsis for this film:
Ji-ho is a promising pianist, studying and playing abroad for years. But one night she had a stage fright and never recovers. In despair, Ji-ho comes home and meets her old classmate Sung-ryong. Once a very bright boy, Sung-ryong had an accident and now he is in late 20s with the mind of a six year old. He is very forgetful, but he has never forgotten his first love Ji-ho. Other half of Sung-ryong’s dumb mind is occupied with his only family – younger sister Jee-in. To take care of her, Sung-ryong sells toasts in front of Jee-in’s school. But Jee-in is embarrassed of her idiotic brother and ignores him. And Sang-soo is Sung-ryong’s old friend who understands Sung-ryong’s innocent mind. But he inevitably falls to the world of gangsters. Ji-ho is still in her slump, Jee-in falls sick and Sang-soo gets involved in a bloody dispute. But all of their agonies are miraculously saved by Sung-ryong in a way nobody has forseen….

About the JIS and HJW thing, I think they had an excellent chemistry in ‘Memories of Bali’… I’d also like to see them together in a movie…
HJW as I said before is my favorite Korean actress mainly because of her acting prowess and versatility… I only hope that I can see her soon in a movie with Jung Woo-sung, a very briliiant dramatic/action Korean actor…

betty, I totally agree she is truly bless with her acting skills. Hopefully she will do a drama soon…so I can see more of her..hehe. Shiri sounds like the role will fit her well…because she has play some action role before (Duelist, Damo, Miracle on 1st street). But not sure Shiri will push thru…because they haven’t even confirm it or said anything about it.

I realy don’t know her but when I saw her some Photos, I swear that on the screen their is nobody brilliant, most attractive and….. I cannot define her beauty, her Qualities.
I am very much impressed that she is a most nice girl.
She is most beautifull and her pictures attracted my heart so from now I do not desire any othe girl.

A reporter from Newsen interviewed Korean star Ha Ji Won on June 29, at a café in Samcheong-dong. Ha Ji Won, who projects an aloof and uppity image most of the time, comes across as very polite and has the attitude of a ‘good student’. She also seems to love her job as an actor very much.
Ha talked about her new blockbuster movie – Haeundae. The movie is an ambitious disaster movie and the 32 year-old actress stars opposite A-lister Seol Kyung-gu.
Are you worried about the movie (Haeundae) preview? Or are you optimistic that it will do well?
Every day is a happy and interesting day for me. I really like my job as an actor. Right now, I have other things to think about and I am not worried about the preview.
I just want to do my best. Some people are constantly worried about earning more money. I think more of living well and making each day count.
Since Haeundae is Korean’s first blockbuster disaster movie, there is pressure to meet people’s high expectations. But Korea does not disappoint its audience. I am very impressed with the end-product. You will not be disappointed with the CGI and special effects (such as the tsunami).
At 32, have you thought about marriage?
I haven’t thought of marriage – not even once! I’m quite surprised that you ask this. Even though my older and younger sisters are married, I do not think about getting married myself.
When I think back on my last relationship, I feel sad. I haven’t been lucky with relationships and have crashed and burned many times. I don’t mind younger men. Jo In-Sung and me are doing fine. (Orchid: I wonder why she mentions Jo In Sung. Are they dating?)
The toughest part for me when I was working on the movie Haeundae was getting the Busan dialect right, yet acting naturally. I studied the dialect with the help of a personal instructor for three months prior to filming the movie.
Haeundae will be released on 23 July, 2009.
