Bosnian film “Grbavica” won the Golden Bear award for best picture at the 56th Berlin Film Festival.

Directed by Jasmila Zbanic, the movie is about struggles of a single mother with her 12 year old daughter in the aftermath of Bosnia war. During the war thousands of women were raped and thousands of life slaughtered.

Silver Bears for consolation in best picture was rewarded to Danish-Swedish production “En Soap” and Iran’s “Offside”.

Silver Bear for best director went to British Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross for “The Road to Guantanamo”, based on a true story of three British Muslims who were held at Guantanamo, the US prison camp in Cuba for more than 2 years before released uncharged.

Germans Moritz Bleibtreu and Sandra Hueller won the best actor and actress award respectively from different films.

Berlin Film Festival is one of the top 3 film fest in Europe alongside Cannes and Venice.
