Ian McKellen, Gandalf, LOTRSir Ian McKellen was honored in Berlin Film Festival, receiving a Golden Bear for lifetime achievement award.

The 66 years old British said that “I still hope I’ve got a lot of life left on stage and making films”, indicating that he is very much enjoying the global fame and is looking forward for more good performances.

Sir Ian McKellen is famous for his Gandalf role in Lord of the Rings trilogy and as Magneto in the X-Men movies. He will be featuring in the much awaited 2006 movie, The Da Vinci Code as well.

Sir Ian, an openly gay star also slammed Hollywood attitudes for gay star, stating that it’s extremely difficult for homosexual US actors to be open about their sexuality. Not sure why he chose this statement when receiving a lifetime achievement award, seems pretty irrelevant for me.

Also receiving the 56th Annual Berlin International Film Festival’s lifetime achievement award is Polish director and screen-writer Andrzej Wajda.
