Korean pop-star Rain’s debut concert in New York (2 Jan) was a success, Rain was one of the very few Asian singer to have a solo concert at Madison Square Garden.
Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon) entertained an sold-out audience of 5500 with his dazzling dance and singing, and off course with his trademark sexy gestures and charming smile.
Famous producer P.Diddy also attended the show and endorsed for Rain, Rain had been chosen to be the first Asian model for P.Diddy’s urban clothing line Sean John.
Also attended was rising American pop star JoJo, who climbed on the stage to praise Rain’s performance.
Rain concert in New York received wide media coverage, wondering if he could extend the Korean wave (hallyu) from Asia to US.
Korean artist had been dominating Asian entertainment scene in the past few years in music, movies and tv dramas. Pop star like Rain, BoA and artist like Jeon Ji-hyun, Bae Yong-jun have become household name in Asia.
The most successful Korean entertainment in US so far is probably the tv drama “Jewel of the Palace” (Dae Jang Geum) which also swept across Asia. Let’s see how far can Rain goes.
