Why I like Fiona Sit Hoi Kei

Fiona Sit Hoi Kei is not the typical beauty, but kinda cute. I like her voice and song, simple and refreshing. Her acting is ok too, but I would prefer to see her singing.

Fiona Sit is definitely one of the best Hong Kong young stars in recent years; I believe Fiona got the talent to excel as a future superstar.

“Tong But Lut” Hmmm, ok, I guess someone made a typo. I’d still like to know what that translates to.

Interestingly, there is another mv for that same song with her dressed in these weird clothes and makeup dancing around in dark hallways and such. Very strange. I don’t like it nearly as much as the android hairdresser video. Not sure why the record company chose to shoot 2 videos for the same song anyway. The song was a hit for her. It’s not like they needed another gimmick with a second video.

Fiona does potray lots of different images in her MV, sometimes in her real life too… perhaps that’s the factor that attracts so many of her young fans. Teenagers nowadays love something alternative and punky :p

Well, it just seems a little uncommon to me, but yeah, I guess if she and the record company are successful enough with a song and it sells like hotcakes then they can afford to make an alternative video to promote the song and her even more. I happen to know that with props, extras, crew, makeup, equpment, studio time, editing time, directors fees, and all kinds of other fees involved in making just one of those MV’s, it can run upwards of 25 to 35 thousand dollars or more. (American). And that’s a minimum. So I guess the extra investment pays for itself on a hit song.

It’s kind of like when American artists started doing alternative dance mixes to songs for the club scenes 10 to 12 tears back. Or putting bonus tracks on the end of a CD. It was all for an extra gimmick to make an extra buck. Now everybody all over the world does that stuff. Anything to make more money I guess. But still, it is also fun to see different versions of stuff. Like you said, it keeps the fans’ interest. :)

Yummy, I’m curious, does Fiona do any Mando-pop? Seems everything I run across of hers is Cantonese. I know she’s Hong Kong, but some of them also sing Mandarin sometimes.

Also, do you allow links of MV’s to be posted from places like Youtube? Wasn’t sure what your policies were on that.

  5. #25. joe Says:

Hmm, never mind about the Mando-pop question. I see you’ve listed her languages as Cantonese, English and French only. Guess that means she doesn’t speak Mandarin.

  6. #26. Yummy Says:

joe… Hong Kong music industry is a small market (and made worse by piracy), the best way for singers to make money is by concerts.

Lots of the time HK’s MV are produced with minimal budget… nowadays Taiwan and Korea are producing much better music video compared to Hong Kong.

Actually Fiona does speak a bit of Mandarin, but her Mandarin sux lol… not sure if she released any Mandarin albums yet. There’s lots of HK singers that can’t speak proper Mandarin but still doing Mando-pop, so I’ll not be surprised if Fiona is releasing a Mandarin album.

Hmm, that’s interesting about the Hong Kong industry, thanks Yummy.
