“The Return of the Condor Heroes” produced by CCTV is scheduled to premiere in China by March 17, 2006. The TV drama was based on the popular same title novel by Jin Yong (aka Louis Cha).
It’s not the first time that Return of the Condor Heroes was made into movies and TV dramas, almost every 2 or 3 years we will see a new version of it, and the fans always seem to support the show.
It’s a martial art cum forbidden love story between Yang Guo (starred by Huang Xiao Ming) and his master Xiao Long Nu (starred by Crystal Liu Yi Fei), with a mystic condor and massive cast of roleplay and story plot around the final years of the China Song dynasty.
With the previously successful and popular production based on other Jin Yong’s novel like “The Legend of The Condor Heroes” and “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,” the China production studio CCTV was putting great expectation for this multimillion production.
To create some buzz for the movie prelaunching, CCTV also selected China SuperGirl contestant Jane Zhang Liang Ying to sing the opening song.
UPDATE The TV drama is released in China and all across Asia, and is one of the most popular China TV production ever.

I have only just discovered the graphic novels, i’ve only read vloumes 14-18 of the Return of the Condor Heroes. Yang Guo reunites with Dragon Girl so i presume that was the end. I greatly enjoyed it and want to know more about the live action versions, can u help?

The CCTV series for “Return of the Condor Heroes” will soon be showing in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.. should be available in Singapore and Malaysia in a few more months.
If you are not from Asia it might take you longer to see the tv series on screen.

I’m in Canada, and I’ve read the whole series of the graphic novels. I have also watched the first version with Andy Lau. Hopefully the new version will come to VCD and have English translations on them.

Hi Nick, I can’t confirm anything, but the VCD will probably only be available after 6 months.. I believe it will have US versions which at least will have English ‘text’ if not translated to English.

kiki.. no one can answer your question yet, the series probably has not released or maybe just started to show.
The story itself should be quite interesting, it’s base as one of the best martial arts + love novel by Jin Yong. Question is how good the series are made only..

I’m a great fan of ROCH since I was young, I recently re-watch the 83 version which is better than the 95.
And I’ve just discovered Liu Yi Fei last week with Demi Gods & Semi Devils (Heaven Dragon The Eighth Episode), and she’s good actress but not little too young for playing Xiao Long Nu ? It doesn’t matter else, I just want to see this 2006 version which looks great & beautiful.
But I will wait a long time to watch it because I’m in France and I can only watch vietnamese version or chinese with english subtitle… (damned ! the dvds have only chinese subtitle)
I hope that people who see it will comment it

Thanks for the info and research! This is my favorite story of all time. I’ve been wanting to watch the 1983 version for so long, but with my weak vietnamese and non-existant chinese I’ve been limite in options. I recently bought the newly release 83 version with English subtitles and love it! I hope this version comes out with english sub soon!

Liu YiFei is very cute and a good actress. It will be interesting to watch although she seems a little young to play the role as Yung Guo’s master. Anyhow, i can’t wait to watch it.

The 83 version is a great one, many still believe it’s the best ROCH ever made.
I think Liu Yi Fei looks gorgeous to play Xiao Long Nu.. and maybe will look a bit too young.. after all Xiao Long Nu will be 30+ years old by the end of the story.
The guy that played Yang Guo is Huang Xiao Meng.. I can’t remember exactly what series he has been starring.. that’s a series that named something like “Han Emperor” that he played the leading role.

Li Mo Chou is played by Jessey Meng (孟广美).
Model and talk show host, occassionally acting.
In 1997 she starred in a Hollywood movie “Red Corner” with Richard Gere, she is however not the leading actress.

The Return of the Condor Hero 2006 is my most favorite series of TVb and the this new version is one of the Best version ever. i love the fighting scence and Yang guo and Xiao Long Nu look so nice and the hair and effect is top. kleng.. Return of the Condor Heroes will be show in a few Asia countries in May. I don’t have much ideas on how good this version will be, but the show is quite a big hit in China, so hopefully it will be good.

I’ve just finished watching the manderin dvd version.. and i think it’s really great!! I can’t compare to the one of 83 cuz i was very young when i watched that one..

btw.. if you are searching for some translated novels, check wikipedia. i found there a bunch of translations of jin jong’s novels. unfortunatly i dont like to read.. :(
The 2006 series is great exept for some details.. the CG is poor.. but the effects are good.. also noticed Yang Guo got boots with some profile on it from this age.. :p

ROCH just started airing here in the Philippines last Monday. It was so amazing and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen! Crystal Liu Yi Fei is so beautiful and talented. GMA changed the title because it wouldn’t make sense to Philippine viewers to have a series titled “Return of the Condor Heroes” when it is the first of its kind shown on primetime TV :D They really took a big risk on this one, but it paid off. On its first week, ROCH rated a high 38% – a slaughter of the opposing show. I hope it continues to enjoy high ratings all throughout its run.
I’m loving the series so far, and many more Philippine fans are enjoying as well.

You can get the English translation of the novel at Wuxiapedia.com. All in all there are 4 books. Once you get the main page, choose “Novels” & then click on “Jin Yong”. The title of the novel in that website is called Divine Eagle, Gallant Knight & it’s the 2nd novel of a trilogy.
There are other wuxia themed novels on that website too so if you’re a wuxia lover like I am, then you’ll really love that website. Also, some of the translations might be a little weird as (if I’m not mistaken) the translators are Chinese educated & some words like smile same up as slid/sli so you have to bear with it.

Hi everyone pinoy here as well, just finish watching the whole series. Nice fight scenes, a heart-felt love story and great effects. Just couldn’t stop thinking of the series since I set my eyes on it on GMA. I love Liu Yi Fei, her role is so innocent and very charming. for some reason GMA7 changed its title to catch more audience attention. Maybe using “Love” instead of “Return” gives an immediate perception for the audiences of the series as a love series instead of just plain action series. wow, Love of the Condor heroes is really amazing. fresh faces in Philippine television during primetime is really such a good idea. Unlike in other stations, local and even programs from other countries are all stale. Go GMA!
Anyway, isn’t it just right for GMA to change the title in order for the Filipino viewers to realize that it is something to look forward to? Using “Love” instead of “Return” is really a good idea so that people will not be confused. If they use the word “Return”, viewers will ask why i’ts a return. They are no yet familiar in Jin Yong’s trilogy novels. So, that’s realy such a nice concept. GMA is really number 1! To GMA, thanks for acquiring the best programs among the wide array of programss in the whole of Asia. Really good…

I’ve just watched the whole ROCH 2006 (PRC) series. It is the best of all the other series, like the two ROCH series from TVBI and the Singapore version.
The graphics and sword fighting sequence are superb.
Liu Yi Fei played Xiu Long Nu very well. Her youthfulness and body language reflect the character in the book. I agree with what sago (Item 64, May 8, 2006) says. Liu Yi Fei’s beauty is truly breath taking.

To Yummy: i think that it is the first wuxia series in here. usually what they show in here are the tragic korean love stories starring Choi Ji Woo & others. it is such a nice change.

Yes, it’s the first of its kind to air in the Philippines, my country. I just want to explain why I think the station that acquired it changed the title:
The title “Return of…” implies that the show is a SEQUEL to something. Like “Return of the Killer Tomatoes” (??). If people here have never seen the original “Legend of the Condor Heroes,” it won’t make sense to the audience. “Huh? Return? Who’s coming back? We’ve never seen them before.”
I think the new title is more fitting. Or maybe they should have made it “The Condor and the Lovers” but then, people would wonder early on, “Where’s the bird?” I think “Love of the Condor Heroes” is just fine.
And the theme song they adopted for it – a song from a few years back by veteran singer/composer Ogie Alcasid – is quite romantic and fits with the story. Just not for an action series though. But Filipinos are die-hard romantics so it’s cool that way.
Anyway, thanks for this blog. I know this story has been remade many times and the story is familiar to Chinese and other Asians. I’m part Chinese but I’m new to this genre. I love it though. More power and fly high, Condor lovers!

Oh and about the age….
Well, people here don’t mind because most of them (myself included) have never seen any other version of ROTCH. Sometimes that can be a good thing; that way they can enjoy the present series without comparing it to previous ones.
Maybe Crystal Liu seems too young to play the lead female. But if you’ve never seen ROTCH before, it won’t bother you much. The only thing that does bother me as I sometimes wish the Yang Guo actor was younger. Isn’t it strange how a grown up man is adoring an innocent-looking girl as his master? But it doesn’t matter. The show rocks! :)
Also, since a new version of this novel is made every 2-3 years (it seems), then it makes sense for the creators do it a little differently each time. That way it will still be new. And since many think that the 1983 version can’t be topped (acting and casting wise), then maybe they did the right thing in giving a different version of Xiao Long Nu in the 2006 version. Instead of imitating the earlier one, make something new, you know?

Hi all, I am from Canada and I an currently on ep 14. Since I can’t read chinese or understand it, i have to wait for the eng subs to come out each week. So far i really enjoy this new remake. Everything is great, especially Liu Yi Fei (true beauty). I saw the original when i was a little kid, don’t remember much of it except the stinkinnnnggg priest. I hate him. I hate him again now. I wanna kill that priest. It will be awhile before i can see the whole thing in eng subs. But so far it’s worth the wait. I’ll probably watch it again once it comes out in viet dubs. probably about 1 year.

Seems like almost everyone cannot wait on what will happen on the whole 41 episodes of ROCH 2006… hehehe. ROCH is a bit incomplete when it comes to ending. The series doesn’t show the scene where they return to the summit of Hua Shan to visit Ouyang Feng and Hong Qi Gong’s graves, Yang Guo was declared the Western Passionate Lover (one of the Great Five) and leads to their meeting with a monk that introduces to them the Nine Yang Manual when they’re only known with the Nine Yin Manual that eventually leads to the end of the story. How I wish I could add some continuation stories between Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu after the night XLN and YG walked down the mountain together and part with the others to continue their love story. I’m still wondering though, where will they stay? Back at the Tomb or down the bottom of the Heartbreaking cliff? hmmmm…

Bought the DVD last week and finished watching it today. Well, it’s freaking good during the 1st half of the series especially when the heroes joined the war. Then it kinda suck for a few epis like the author doesn’t know what to do anymore with too many characters prancing around. Luckily, he found a way to make the story interesting again by closing a few subplots. Though I hate how one of it ended. Why? It concerned my favorite character. However, just when we thought it’s over, the author tried to drag the story again spanning 16 years. That was just unnecessary IMO but I guess he needs to do it because those were the only chapters that really had something to do with the title. Thank him for making the last few chapters quick, funny, and heroic. All in all, I’d rate this series a 3.75 out of 5.

Yummy… yeah it wasn’t bad when you rate the series as a whole. The martial arts were cool (yet somehow unrealistic ^_^). I’ve only seen little faults for the actors. I could have given it a solid 5 if not for those boring episodes and the constant dragging. It’s like the lovers were never meant to be. Oh yes, there were also scenes where I was really puzzled. I’d recommend reading those chapters to provide a more vivid description of what they’re actually thinking.
Man, I can’t believe my favorite character died. I was really touched by her love for Yang Guo. I also thought her last scenes were better on screen than on the novel.
You know after watching ROCH 2006, I felt like I really want to watch LOCH just to acquaint myself with Yang Guo’s dad… When did LOCH come out anyway? Are the characters as interesting as that of ROCH?

I got your point lightspec.. it’s dragging lots of the time. It’s like if I missed 2 episodes and continued watching it I can still follow the story bcoz I’m not missing too much.
LOCH is fun to watch as well, CCTV made me some 3-4 years ago.. and there’s a few version from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Actually I like LOCH more than ROCH, LOCH is more to ‘wuxia’ and less ‘romantic’, so it will depends on personal preference.

kayz.. u r talking about Jue Dai Shuang Jiao. If 3 years ago that means it’s the Dicky Cheung and Nicolas Tse version.
You should look for title like “Xiao Yuer And Hua Wuque” or “Proud Of Twins” for the 2002/2003 version.
Else you can try “The Handsome Siblings” or “Jue Dai Shuang Jiao” but normally it will refer to the 1992 version instead.

Hmm. I read in a Philippine forum that Crystal Liu (as she is more often called here) is the #2 most popular actress in China today, and Huang Xiao Ming is the #2 most popular actor. I wonder if that’s true. But it doesn’t matter. They are already well-loved here.
Best episode to me so far is the “Chancellor of Wulin” episode. I like the action sequences there best. But still, the quiet scenes between the two leads are even beter. I’ve read portions of the novel online. Maybe others disagree with me, but I think Crystal Liu is perfect or near-perfect for the role even though she is so young. She looks that young in the book anyway.
It’s the gentleman playing Yang Guo who is a bit out of place to me. :) But only a little. He’s too old for the hero in the book. It’s still fun to watch though. I love it!

There are always difference version of DVD of Chinese series, some were episodes by episodes in full length, some are streamed full versions, and then there’s with or without subtitle, and with different subtitles blah blah.. you got to make some own judgement perhaps, good luck.

Oh, and has anybody noticed the fact that a lot of the ambience music used in this series, especially in the action sequences, are taken from hollywood movies? So far I’ve picked out themes from Batman Begins and Dragonheart. Not to say the series isn’t good, the music works, but it’s just kind of funny considering how well-developed everything else is.

I’m pretty sure. It’s also been done before by the ROCH team. I’ve picked it up in both Tian Long Ba Bu and Legend of the Condor Heroes before it. I guess the budget somewhat limits what the filmmakers can spend on. At least they didn’t take the opening and closing songs from some other place.

moon.. I can only use direct pinyin translation, the opening song is “Tian Xia Wu Shuang” by Zhang Liang Ying, ending some is “Jiang Hu Xiao” by Emil Chau. I don’t think the songs have any proper English names. If you are thinking of downloading the songs, sorry I couldn’t help much.. they are a few other fans that are facing similar problems, and I can just wish you all good luck.

Xiao Long Nu (Dragon Girl) asked Yang Guo to wait for 16 years bcoz if Yang Guo knew the truth that Xiao Long Nu was (supposed to be) dying, he would kill himself immediately, so Dragon Girl hoped that after 16 years.. Hear hear! By the way, did anybody notice the peculiar, seemingly pointless, changes they made in some of the characters? I\’ve read the novels and I noted two of the biggest ones.
The priest who raped Xiao Long Nu in the novel is Ying Zhi Ping, but in the series his name is Zheng Zhi Jin. He also suffers a far different fate than in the novel, though that I can understand. Also, Jin Lun in the series is simply the top Mongolian Martial Artist. In the novel, he is a Tibetan Monk whose name is Jin Lun Fa Wang.
I can understand that, to accomodate a limited running time, that some changes must me made and some parts must be cut. That\’s why I didn\’t really bitch about the abbreviated beginning and ends. But the previously mentioned bits just seem a bit pointless don\’t you think?

The show’s been shot in a variety of locations in China. Sometimes, what you see as one location is actually several places pieced together. Especially the Jue Qing Gu scenes. So there’s no one place. The producers simply scouted the locations according to their needs of each sequence.

LYF does know English.. not sure for HXM.
Actually I think there’s 2 version for Jiang Hu Xiao the ending song, the multi-singer is sang by 4 or 5 person, including Emil Chau, Zhang Ji Zhong (the series director), Huang Xiao Meng (yes it’s Yang Guo), the song composer (not sure what name) and maybe one or two more.

I believe that in a series like this one there are multiple directors, one for each unit. Because they are shooting an extremely long film in a limited amount of time, producers would usually split the group up into separate units. Have each unit doing a different sequence simultaneously and then edit them all together into a coherent whole later. It saves time and money. Each Unit needs a director to make sure it all goes right while the Producer (Zhang Ji Zhong) supervises it overall.
That’s why Zhang Ji Zhong is the recognized face for the crew of ROCH. He’s the closest you can get to the traditional role of a director, but he’s not the director.

Just click on Novels then Jinyong.Title of the “Return of the Condor Heroes” is Divine Eagle,Gallant Knight.I’m finished already reading the novel and it’s very interesting ‘coz it’s more detailed. You’ll have a better understanding of the series after or while reading it.

There is, to my knowledge, no english translation of the lyrics of Tian Xia Wu Shuang or Jiang Hu Xiao. If you want, though, I can attempt to pingying the original lyrics for you. How’s that?

@rc3L.. it’s ok if you post some particular useful links, but it’s ridiculous to post loads of links to other Liu Yi Fei’s website, that’s an insult to my effort seriously.. you can’t go to somebody house and tell that others house are better blah blah.
As of your question on why Xiao Long Nu had to die after 16 years, the simple answer is she didn’t. As of why.. I will have to write a chapter to describe that, pardon me for not having the time now.

Sakura.. there are at least a dozen song used in ROCH, I am not sure which one was rain, but I know that they are realeasing a OST album for Condor Heroes, so you might want to buy the album instead.

- yummy, is true that the book is more detailed than the ROCH series?
- well, @rc3L, Yang Guo found the condor when she was with Li Mo Chou… and the baby Guo Xiang. i think, YG heard a something and looked for it.. he found the big condor. then, the next time they met, was when YG’s arm was cut, and was lying in the dessert, and two snakes came in, and poof, he is with the condor.. did i help?? its a little bit detailed..
- did you look at the goofs of the series?? hirs one, look at YG’s arms after it was cut by Guo Fu,. YG’s right arm is just wrapped around his back.. hhehe.. just want to share it.

sniper08.. the original novel off course will be more detailed, simply for the fact that it’s original. Honestly I think the ROCH 2006 has done quite a good job to be as close as possible to the book.

Yeah, I think so, bcoz I went to Power Books yesterday and ask for Chinese Novels, they dont have one. Anyways, I’ll just go in HK and buy some chinese novels, as well as Liu Yi Fei movies and series. LOL! Haha!

goodness gma cuts a lot of important details!! i think the part where jin lun attacked gugu which made her internal organs bleed (based on anime) were cut too because they didnt say anything as to why gugu is dying..

in my oppinion about this ROCH movie…
the old version (andy lau) is more detail than the new version now..
bit of course the special effect is not to compare..
but the old version is more good in the cast…
in the new ROCH some character is missing cast..
and the old version story line is more full adaptation to the novel but the new one is some chapter is missing.
but the new version of yang guo and xiao lung nu is more romantic than the old version ^___^
and i like that ^ ^

ayarinoa.. later in the movie Huang Rong will tell Guo Jing how Xiao Long Nu get hurt. Its still mystery to me why is Xia Long Nu dying(not to include she was poisoned by the ice needle). If im not mistaken Jin Lun didn’t hurt Xiao Long in their fight, I think it is because of one of the disciples of Wang Chongyang, she was hit I think by some kind of force or energy. hehe, im not sure.

Based from what I read, the reason why gugu is dying is because she was hurt by Jin Lun’s weapon during the fight and by the Wang ChongYang’s Head Masters(when they saw that she killed one of the disciple…)

junegrace.. I never actually heard of the series being made into English dialect yet, there are DVDs in Chinese with English sub though, that can be purchase online.
ayarinoa.. her album will release in Japan on July 19. Not sure when in other places.
wiewie.. in terms of originality, the 83 version definitely match closer to the novel. Some of the ROCH character has been changed or hidden in the ROCH 2006, but the story are still pretty smooth.
xtian and airam23.. actually there’s a bit more to it from the original novel, Xiao Long Nu is dying because of a combination of internal injuries, poisoned and some stupid act from Guo Fu.

I really love this ROCH 2006 TV series, especially the scenes of Crystal Liu and Huang Xiao Ming. They portrayed their roles perfectly, I can’t help myself watching Xiao Long Nu dying in the arms of Yang Gou. This is, indeed, a great love story, I think the best love story I’ve ever seen in TV.
Will XLN & Yang Gou die in this series? I hope not..
More power to Huang Xiao Ming and Crystal Liu! You did a great job in this series! Congratulations!

Gosh so I definitely watched eps 8-28 ALL yesterday and then downloaded 29 overnight and watched it when i woke up. I get them from d-addicts.
Yummy-you said that the series is over in china? is that right? or did i read wrong?
because i’d like to know how many episodes there are in total..i think i saw somewhere that it was 41 episodes..but i want some clarification (thanks~)
anyhow this series is definitely one of the best, if not the best. And it definitely helps that liu yi fei is soo beautiful. And huang xiao ming brings the character really to life. Both actor and actress do a great job of making the audience feel the emotion that is going on in the story.
My only hope is the same as Bernadette’s, that long nu and yang guo don’t die and that there’s a happy ending! they’ve gone through way too much suffering to have a sad ending.

The series is over in most part of China, and finish as well in Malaysia and Singapore if not mistaken. It’s 40, or 41 episodes.. I can’t remember but it’s around that.

To answer some questions. Xiao Long Nu’s name is like that because they don’t really know her name. All that is known of it is that her surname is Long (which means dragon). It is never given what her given name is and her master apparently didn’t mind that she only had a surname. Since she had inhabited the Tomb of the Living Dead since she was very young, it is only natural that the priests of the Quan Zhen sect knew her since she was a little girl. Therefore, they refer to her as the Xiao Long Nu or “the little girl named Long.”
As for her “fatal” wounds. In the series it is explained that 1) she was caught unawares by the blow from the five Headmasters of the Quan Zhen sect.
2) She came into contact with the poisonous qi of Li Mo Chou when Yang Guo mistakenly tried to use it to purge Xiao Long Nu of her wounds.
3) The needles.
Does that explain most things?

oh my gOd! i cant believe what ive just read, you guys r so fanatic(thats the way to describe u all). im not used to watch those foreign series(teleserye) translated to filipino, just now.. just now!! well i like the story and the actors did really great

Just go to the site and click the ‘Novels’ link..and then go to jin yong. and then scroll down to ‘Divine Eagle, Gallant Knight’ which is the other name for ROCH.
There are 41 chapters..it’s basically one chapter per epsiode.
so start on book 4. I have to say though that there are a few chapters in the book and few pretty large parts that aren’t mentioned in the roch series. so you should look around and read those too.

Actually the end of Return of Condor Heroes thus signal the beginning of another story, Heaven Sword & Dragon Sabre as mentioned by wiewie.
The connection was however not as strong as LOCH with ROCH, as the main characters of ROCH will not appear in HSDS at all.

@rc3L.. Yi Fei starred in a few other TV series, you might want to check “Demi Gods, Semi Devils”.. Love of May is movie, another movie is something name “Love Winner.” Mayonaka No Doors is her first single and as far as I know, this is the only song from Liu Yi Fei so far.

Never heard of any plan of making the drama yet, but Guo Xiang appeared in only about 30 pages in the HSDS novel, that would give her around 15-30 minutes appearance from the whole drama only IF there is a remake.

Guo fu don’t have twin sister.. it’s younger sister Guo Xiang, played by Yang Mi.
I can’t find anything official about Liu Yi Fei nationality, but it’s commonly regarded as American.. she moved and stayed there for 7-8 years.

Don’t mistaken Legend of Condor Heroes drama with the anime though, it’s different.

What a series, of all my entire T.V. experiences this is the kind of series I’d like to watch over and over again, I hope there will be a part 2 of the series. Crystal Liu is so beautiful, she made a very nice role in the series just as Yang Guo did. More power and waiting for the second part of the series.

ROCH is, indeed, a great TV series I’ve ever seen. The love story of Yang Go
and XLN is one of the best after Romeo and Juliet. The series really depict the essence of love – a genuine love for each other with faith, patience and forgiveness through thick and thin.
What can I say? it’s a breathtaking moments for me watching that series. My heart is pounding so hard whenever I watch the scenes of Yang Go and XLN and my eyes never tired seeing those beautiful nature scenes! the mountains, the cliff, caves, waterfalls, running water, fogs, etc. The actions scenes are great, too! ahh ROCH would give you a sigh relief from stress and boredom.
GMA Network is lucky having chosen a great TV series like ROCH, hope HXM and LYF would have a sequel of this ROCH . It is sad to note that ROCH would end this week. We will surely miss HXM and LYF plus Yang Mi who is also cute,very pretty and naive looking gal.

There won’t be a sequel for ROCH. Huang Xiao Ming is making another TV series based on novel written by Louis Cha, who wrote ROCH.. but Liu Yi Fei won’t be starring in that new production.

hi! im sure i posted a comment here, why is it not posted now? i had questions there too. like, are hxm and yi fei real sweethearts? uhm! i was thinking that might not be possible too considering their age gap. but then were there press releases saying that? did they go out ones in a while off-cam? where can we download there ost’s for free, megaupload seems to be always busy and we have to pay premiums. it’s fun writing here so please post this and i hope anyone can answer me too. im one of the biggest fan of ROCH here in PI, so even if they play ROCH and MY GIRL together ( rival channels) i still scream to take control of the remote and watch ROCH. are really only 40episodes? what’s the ultimate ending, im just curious if gma will play it to the end, or cut something VERY IMPORTANT again. please help.thanks a lot.

It’s around 40/41 episodes, and it’s a good ending.

yummy, can i ask? ive heard yifie starring in DGSD? im sure you’ve heard that. what came first that or ROCH? the series have just ended here in the philippines last aug11, 2006. im so sad, but of course i was happy of the ending. although the channel here cut some important details to cut thru time perhaps but it was well. ive read the wuxiapedia novel of this story and i thought they are really gonna portray them all to my despair but of course the ending was well. did it really ended with both gugu and quer flying with the condor? or was there something else? please i hope you can enlighten me. due to a lot of cuts, im begining to be confused if they really gave us the ending. thanks again yummy!

ROCH is one of a kind here in the philippines, our competing channels here seldom airs chinese legendaries because they usually take the korean dramas and comedies. ROCH was a big difference in my everyday nights.

This is by far the best remake of the Condor Heroes series. It doesn’t get any better than this especailly when you have a beauty like liu yi fei playing one of the main roles. Not only is the story line very good, it really brings out the story when you have actors who can portray their roles. The only downside to ROCH is the graphics; otherwise, everything else will blow you away.

Ya YesAsia price is 15-30% higher than local stores, just that they have more complete collections.
Not sure about Speedy, nor any others. I have a feeling that Tian Long Ba Bu is available, the drama is showed quite some time already. Actually if you can wait long enough, most TV dramas will be available at local store.
Not sure about YiFei’s album though, haven’t heard it from local radio station, so it’s probably not releasing in Malaysia.

Ok, I was wrong. Yi Fei Chinese album has just released yesterday (September 15) in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and MALAYSIA. So it’s available at local stores at these countries.

“The Return of the Condor Heroes” produced by CCTV is scheduled to premiere in China by March 17, 2006. The TV drama was based on the popular same title novel by Jin Yong (aka Louis Cha).
It’s not the first time that Return of the Condor Heroes was made into movies and TV dramas, almost every 2 or 3 years we will see a new version of it, and the fans always seem to support the show.
It’s a martial art cum forbidden love story between Yang Guo (starred by Huang Xiao Ming) and his master Xiao Long Nu (starred by Crystal Liu Yi Fei), with a mystic condor and massive cast of roleplay and story plot around the final years of the China Song dynasty.

Guo’s father died in the first part of the trilogy, legend of condor heroes. He betrayed his own country and was killed when he hit Rong’s poisonous armor in a temple.
Guo’s mom died of illness in the beginning of ROCH. Even though it was not shown in this tv show, it’s there in the book. To make the film more continuous and fast paced, they cut many scenes that were originally in the book.

Guo’s family? i dont know who this refers to, but apparently his wife and he reunited in the end so they didnt die.
Guo’s parents died way back when he was a kid.

As I said, Guo jing and Huang rong’s dead were mentioned in the next part, Heavenly sword and Dragon-slaying sabre. They died when Xiang Yang was conquered. Their first daughter and son weren’t mentioned I think(died with parents i guess?), but their second daughter Guo Xiang created a sect, so she didn’t die with her parents.

I can’t remember exactly, but did Guo Jing and Huang Rong actually died after Xiang Yang was conquered? I thought I read that they made the Heavenly Sword and Dragon-slaying Sabre to hide the ’secrets’ before Xiang Yang was conquered, and then can’t really remember what happened… perhaps they just hide away instead.

According to chapter 9 of heavenly sword and dragon-slaying sabre, Guo jing and Huang rong died exactly the day Xiang Yang was conquered, and according to history, Xiang Yang was conquered on Jan 31, 1273.
According to chapter 3 of LORH, Guo Jing’s birthday should be a full moon day(November) when Jin was at war with the Song dynasty(around year 1200).

lol Guo Jing is the #1 hero in all Jin Yong’s 14 movels. He wouldn’t hide when XiangYang was in danger, and Huang Rong always follows him so she wouldn’t hide either. There are many depictions that imply they will never abandon the innocent citizens, and they’ve made it clear that the hero and heroine will live when the city is under protection, and die when the city is conquered.
I don’t really like heavenly sword and dragon-slaying sabre alot bcoz characters in there are all weakasses both physically and spiritually, so I’ve only read it once a longggggg time ago, and don’t remember how the weapons were made, but I think it is Guo Xiang who made them with Yang Guo’s heavy sword. I’m not quite sure tho, I’ll find out later when i have time.

hehe, I’m a Jin Yong fan. I have read ROCH many many times and watched many versions. It never gets old. I like it the way old ppl like Shakespearn arts, but I feel ROCH is a lot better than Shakespearn arts bcoz it has a lot of deep meanings and themes, and everytime I reread it, I can dig out something new. :)

so many have bitched about the leading actor’s childish acting and the actress’ age. My only suggestion is……GO READ THE BOOK!!!
YangGuo is very dynamic. He first appears as an 11-yr-old playful beggar, and matures into a real hero at age of 37 by the end. U can clearly see the difference through HuangXiaoMing’s acting, so he knows his part and acts well. He is SUPPOSED to be a loud mouth and childish in the beginning. Remember, he is only 16 yrs old when he practiced Jade Maiden with XLN, and I know this actor looks a lot older than that(his real age is 29, suitable for later performances).
Xiaolongnv is SUPPOSED to look very young, even in the end……She is 18 when she first met YangGuo but looks like a 16 or 17 yr old girl(Chapter 5). She looks slightly over 20 when she’s 40 in the end(Chapter 39). WHY IS THIS?!?! If you read the book, you’ll find the Jade Maiden cultivating techniques from the Ancient Tomb Sect concentrates on rules of 12 nothingness and 12 plentfulness, which make XLV emotionless. She throws these crap away when they find they love each other(XLV coughs out blood constantly because she doesn’t follow these rules anymore); however, she practices these principles again when she falls into the valley. Plus there’s no sunlight in the tomb and valley, so she looks very young throughout the whole story. Therefore, Crystal Liu is perfect for this role.
So stop bitching about HuangXiangming’s childish loud mouth and Crystal Liu’s age!! They are closest to the characters in the book!

WOW!!! I just took a chance and rented this series (ROCH 06) on netflix and now I plan to buy it!! I’m in the USA so can someone recommend where I can purchase this series besides at YESASIA?
The two lead actors were just great, especially Liu Yi Fei. They were an attractive couple and did great justice to the way their characters were described in the book.
Which do many of you like better ROCH 83 or ROCH 06…let me know!! Thanks.

ROCH 83 and ROCH 06 is not comparable… the time difference is too huge and the special effects are just so different.
Over all I think the 06 version is better but it’s reasonable with all the technical improvements. Still 83 series was a great one by their standard in 80s.

My props to all the people who left a comment about the series. I really loved the series. Indeed you cannot compare ROTCH06 with ROTCH83. They were both good. ROTCH06 has a lot of special effects going. To be honest it could be a bit less to me. I’ve noticed that Guo Xiang has a different story between ROTCH and LSHS. I would really like to know what really happened to the Guo family! Would anybody know more about this? Also what happened to Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu?
LSHS is not a better story then the condor heroes. It’s actually pointing out the weakness of the world of martial arts.

Guan… the Guo family’s destiny are not revealed in the end of ROTCH. In the other story from Jin Yong, the city of Xiang Yang was conquered in the end… I can’t remember exactly what happened to the family after that.
That’s no follow-up stories on Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu after ROTCH, it’s general accepted that they lived happily ever after.

Yummy I hope you could tell me how many revisions Jin Yong had for ROCH. I searched many websites but still unable to find the latest version. The translated version at wuxiapedia.com was it according to his latest revision? ROCH to me is a very good novel and I am extremely curious as to how Jin Yong made any further changes to it. BTW I dont know chinese and that’s why I cant read his chinese novels. Would be grateful if you could enlighten me on this. Also I read somewhere that he alter Yang Guo’s charater a bit to gratify his personal ‘weakness’ in his old age, is that true? Thank you.

CLK… as far as I know he has reviewed ROCH just once, that is as recently.
I am not sure how ROCH was modified… but I have read the revised version of “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,” for me it’s a disappointment, he tried to explain everything in details and actually bored the storyline. I would prefer his original version much much more.

83 version had the best Yeung Gor. 06 version had the best Dragon Girl. 83v had the best script. 06v had th best scenery and special affects. 95 version had worst acting skills by both main characters. Combine the best of 83 and 06, you’ll get the best ROCH.

the budget for the movie was good but I don’t think they chose the right man to play yang guo.i think they should have chosen zhou jie to play yang gou
but xiao long nu and gou jing were both impressive.and script writer of the series wasen’t actually good or should i say he/she was really bad in writing the adaptation.

the most amazing TV programme i have ever watched! and beats ANY movie. Liu yi fei and Huang Xiao Ming are superb! Forget movies like titanic? This version of return of condor heroes shows the real depth of emotional love and commitment between two people. thats how love should be felt and expressed. now its sad because there’s no more *sniff sniff* MAKE MORE EPISODES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Truely gifted acting Inspirational drama! wins over anything i have ever watched. at least i have the dvds of every episode which was a very hard find. but worth it. i used to say Ziyi Zhang was my fave, but Liu yi Fei has to be for her acting! simply inspiring!! NOTHING WILL EVER BE BETTER THAN THIS VERSION OF THE RETURN OF THE CONDOR HEROES.

I really love Return of the condor Heroes 2006, I saw all versions of Return of the Condor (version 1983, 1995, 1998, 1999, anime and movie) but this version 2006 is the BEST. I really love Huang Xiao Ming as Yang Guo
And it’s the best story i have ever seen
