Kwon BoA Biography
Kwon BoA ambition was to become a singer when she was a kid, but her route to star hood came with a bit of faith and coincidence.
When BoA was 11 years old, her brother went for a talent quest audition organized by Korea entertainment agency, SM Entertainment.
SM was planning to produce an international superstar and wanted to train the prospect from young age, and BoA’s brother was asked if he got any younger siblings, and BoA was invited by SM for audition as well.. and BoA was chosen to be the future star.
BoA’s parents were persuaded to allow BoA to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a singer, and she started her training in singing, dancing and foreign languages. She was once sent to Japan to learn Japanese and sing & dance skills, which according to BoA was some of the toughest time she ever had.
BoA released her first Korean album, “ID; Peace B” in 2000 and immediately noticed by Japan’s Avex and signed a contract.
In March 2002, BoA became the first foreigner to top the Japan Oricon chart, with her debut Japanese album “Listen to My Heart.” The album was co-produced by Avex Japan and SM Korea, Boa showed her talent singing in English, Japanese and Korean.
The BoA sensation spreads to all around Asia, with numerous Japanese and Korean hits in the past few years. She won the MTV Asia The Most Influential Asian Artist Award in 2004, she was just 18 then.
In February 2006, BoA released her 4th Japanese album “Outgrow” and top the ORICON chart again and became only the 2nd singer to have 4 consecutive album topping ORICON chart. (The first artist to do this is Ayumi Hamasaki)
It’s also a known fact that BoA is interested in acting as well. Her first movie involvement was as voice-actress for Korean version of Anime movie “The Hedge” in May 2006.
Why I like Kwon BoA
BoA is arguably the most famous Asian young star. I actually like her when she was younger, she looked cute back then, but now trying to portray a sexy look, with too many makeup most of the time.
Anyway I think BoA can sing and dance very well, she is an intelligent and smart girl.
While some people think that BoA was lucky to achieve her superstar status, bear in mind that she worked really hard to achieve what she is today.

BoA did not get any plastic surgery because she is just too busy so she have gotten skinny. And now she wears too much make up that before. Her nose gotten pointy too because of make up and lights OK? She even have a scar on her forehead because of an accident when she was between 10 to12, who idiot will have a plastic surgery without taking her scar off? so BoA didn’t really have PLASTIC surgery. First of all, BoA is by far the best dancer in all of Asia probably. So since we’re all at home, sitting in front of our computers, twiddling our thumbs, we cannot really say anything bad about her. Also, even it was true that two guys were fighting over BoA and their group was disbanded, it doesn’t mean it was BoA’s fault. I find that the two guys were foolish enough to break their entire career for a girl.
Compared to the rest of the Asian stars, BoA is probably the biggest one and the one with most talent. Her voice can be improved, but no one in Taiwan, China, etc, can probably dance like her.
Even if that still doesn’t convince you, think about how she’s making millions while we’re trying to flame her or whatever.

It’s not that she can’t sing, it just that her voice is never used properly. She can’t use it, it’s beautiful and strong but she just can’t use it properly which annoys me sometimes.
She does have really great dance skills. She learned how to dance in 6 months. Even though she was trained for 2 years, most of that time was used to teach her foreign languages.

DRag0ness… true. Most of her songs didn’t need great voice actually. Her agency could try with some ballad (or even jazz) that show more vocal power of BoA.
Korean chic… you are right as well. Some of my friends do think that she’s Japanese. And for foreigners, we can’t really differentiate Japanese and Korean too much… it sounds almost the same sometime unless we listen carefully to distinct some words like saranghe or ishiteru etc.

That’s an old picture of Boa… she changed a lot since early 2006, trying to portray a sexier image… but I seriously think that the idea works against her.
Boa is still 20, she is cute, and can continue to be cute for a few more years… she don’t have to turn into a sexy pussycat at her age now, she can do it later when she grow older.

I don’t you have ever been to korea Hakkyo, because plastic surgery has advanced so much that a couple of days to one week is normal recovery for most common plastic procedures.. this includes eyes, nose, slimming the jaw and chin, raising the forehead, etc..
and as a note.. a scar is hardly noticeable when there is makeup to hide it.. but you can hardly hide a facial features.. only enhance what is good to make what is ‘bad’ not as evident…
btw im dont hate boa but sometimes i feel inclined too because she is overrated due to her commercial promotions following success but also because people think she didn’t have plastic surgery at all or “minor” touches..

I don’t think BoA is as natural as a dancer compared to Namie Amuro; it seems like BoA works hard in training to do all the dance moves, which she did pretty well… but Amuro, she’s a natural born dancer.

Boa is definately HOT & SEXY!! Hardly do u can find such a young age accepting those tough & scheduled training.. I watched most of her Utube video showed how she was trained since 11yr old.. Her voice was sooo Power since she was at tat age.. I can tell u guys tat i nv like Boa Or can say didnt even notice her til her 2nd Japanese album “Valenti’ was lauched. Her 1st video i watched was ‘Valenti’.. & her 1st song & oso my most Fav song was ‘Jewel Song’ Its so nice & i believed tt its a love song cos i dun really understand Jap u see.. Lol. How did she get to be popstar for free? She went for an audition and showed potentials that attracted the company to sign her… that’s what I call talent.

Kaykicks… agree on her English; she doesn’t seem to improve over the years. Perhaps it’s lack of real conversation among her friends and colleagues. Learning a language in school is not enough, we need to use it often to be really fluent with it.

star… it depends on the contracts and the agencies she is working for. There are also multiple factors like the size of the agency, the potential of the star etc.
I am not really sure how Korean agencies work, but in general… some of the agencies do provide their artists with allowances, some only pay according to their work.
Besides, those with potential to become superstars are normally treated better even when they are not yet a star.
Famous pop stars like BoA don’t need to worry about making a living daily. Having just a few concerts could pay for her living expenses for a few years.
