Crystal Liu Yi Fei Biography
Crystal Liu Yi Fei was born in Beijing but spent her childhood mostly in Wuhan. Her father was a university professor while her mother a famous dancer and stage performer.
Liu Yi Fei was already modeling since 8 years old; her photos are still found on some streets in Wuhan where she spent her childhood. Yi Fei was said to be a very potential artist since she was a kid; she showed talents in singing, dancing and playing piano.
After the divorce of her birth parents, Yi Fei left China to USA with her mother at age of 10. Yi Fei only came back to China in 2002, where she was accepted into the prestigious Beijing Film Academy at the tender age of 15.
Just shortly after Yi Fei got into Beijing Film Academy in 2002, she received chances to star in a TV drama, “Story of a Noble Family” (金粉世家).
Liu Yi Fei then got her leading role as ‘Wang Yuyan’ in CCTV’s “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils” (天龙八部), a WuXia drama based on the legendary Jin Yong same titled novel.
Crsytal’s age was a concern for most people as they were worried if she could performed to the standard at the age of 15… but Yi Fei proved to everyone that her maturity is beyond her age and her performance at the series was up to the par.
Liu Yi Fei starred in her first movie “Love of May” (五月之恋) in 2003, followed by another movie “The Love Winner” (恋爱大赢家) in 2004.
It was however Crystal’s acting in another popular TV drama, “Chinese Paladin” in 2004 that made Yi Fei a superstar in China.
Chinese Paladin or “The Legend of Fairy Sword” was adapted from a popular RPG game and both the TV drama and game were superhit in China. Yi Fei played the leading role ‘Ling Er’ and Ling-Er was used as her nickname by Chinese fans as well.
In 2005/2006, Yi Fei made her fame as international superstar as ‘Xiao Long Nu’ in CCTV’s TV drama series, Return of the Condor Heroes, another Jin Yong’s WuXia novel adopted production. ROCH is a popular hit across Asia, from China to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and South East Asia. Liu Yi Fei is becoming a household name and one of the most popular young actresses.
Liu Yi Fei is becoming a singer too, she signed a record contract with Sony Music in August 2005 and has been learning singing and dancing in Japan and China since then. Yi Fei has released her first Japanese single “Mayonaka no Door” in July 2006 and released her debut Chinese album in September 2006.
Crystal Liu decided to take a break from entertainment world in early 2007 to pursue her study in USA… but her plan was interrupted because of a great chance to star alongside superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li in movie “The King of Kungfu,” which they are filming at the moment.
Why I like Crystal Liu Yi Fei
For me, Crystal Liu Yi Fei is not stunningly beautiful, but she’s definitely cute and has the like-ability factor. It is hard for anyone, any ages or gender to not like a girl like Yi Fei.
Liu Yi Fei first caught my eyes in her role at the TV drama series Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, her acting was just ok… but after I discovered that Yi Fei was just 15 when making the scene, I changed my perception about her… she was definitely showing more potential than one could expected from her age.
After Zhang Ziyi making her fame in Hollywood, people always wonder who is the next from China to shine in the international stages, everyone is still waiting… and Liu Yi Fei is a possible candidate to live up to international superstar status.

Now, I certainly agree with what “HOT!!!!” says in the previous comment. Liu Yi Fei’s acting is definitely “still not that good” even to this day. Yummy, I think that Shu Qi should be on this. She’s an awesome actress and she’s beautiful. Though I must say I’m not too fond of her rather pornographic start, but she cleaned up nicely and she absolutely has talent! I love her! Gorgeous AND she is an amazing actress (and she’s Taiwanese). Lol. Sorry for the bias, hahaha, I love Taiwan.

To be a good actress, one also needs talent. And some people just don’t have as much talent as others. Look at so many amazing child actors/actresses. Did they need 5+ years to hone their skills? No. And I meant I’m rather biased about loving Shu Qi because she’s from Taiwan, not for the other stuff. My goodness. Lol. And of course, I’m not saying that given time, Liu Yi Fei won’t improve. I’m just saying that she doesn’t seem to be a natural, like so many others.

Sure Liu Yi Fei got natural talent, she started acting at 15.. and that’s talent.
But even with talent, one still needs constant improvement, that applies to everyone.. Liu Yi Fei or Shu Qi. Shu Qi took years to improve her acting before finally getting a best actress award.
Talent needs to be nurtured.

i live here in the philippines.. and the answer for the question why did the “Legend of the Condor Heroes” was changed into “Love of the Condor Heroes” would be because the TV Channel Mangement that bring it here in the Phil. focused on the 2 main characters relationship, about the ‘ever” “powerful” LOVE. (^^,) They also backed-it up with an opening song sung by an excelent actress/singer here in the Phil.
Well about Liu Yi Fei, she totally rocked every men’s loving heart.. wahehe
When i first saw her, i thought she was Moon Geun Young of Korean Drama Series, Endless Love: Autumn in my Heart.

Crystal Liu Yi Fei is seen in the Philippines, not just in the Condor series, but also in a lesser popular swordplay/fantasy series aired in the afternoons. The title has been changed, no doubt, it’s called “Eternal Love” here. Confusing because an older series starring Barbie Xiu (?) had the same title they said.
In this series, Crystal Liu is obviously a lot younger than in Condor Heroes. It’s the one where she and the lead male were carrying the ashes of her nurse or maid in a jar and it broke. There’s some magic in the story. Do you know what this is? Is there a filmography of this girl I can look up?
She’s really good. If she can act well at 15, no wonder she does well as the older Xiao Long Nu too!

Kleuze.. I have no idea what’s the meaning of dada, KoKo is probably a direct translation in Chinese, which means something like master’s sister. Xiao Long Nu promised to take care of Yang Guo when he was young but didn’t want to be his master, so Yang Guo called her KoKo instead.
Guoer means Guo+boy.. Yang Guo as a boy you see. Ermm where did Youka come from?
And btw it’s RETURN of Condor Heroes, or Love of Condor Heroes if you like it.. never never LEGEND of Condor Heroes coz it’s a totally different novel or tv series.

And sorry, the other fantasy series I was talking about was an adaptation of “A Chinese Ghost Story.” You see, we’ve had wuxia shows like Condor before, but never aired on primetime. I thought “Ghost Story” was good though, just complicated.
Yes, I think Koko is the word. In the Wuxiapedia translation by Noodles, it is spelled “Gugu.” I think it just depends on the way. I don’t know why they had to change it when it was dubbed. Stupid really. :D I think Koko must be like “Tita” in Filipino (”Auntie”) so in the book, Lu Wu Shuang assumes Yang Guo is talking about a relative.
And yes, Mark, that’s what happened. Why do you think the magic virginity mark vanished from her wrist?
Sorry, Yummy. It’s just that people in my country are not used to seeing such things happen to the protagonist in a drama series. That’s one thing that really shocked people when other Asian dramas started airing here a few years ago. Heroes were dying left and right or suffering all kinds of misfortune. *sigh*

there are many similarities in the episodes of Love of the condor heroes or return of the condor heroes….
but there are only 13 episodes….

Guys and gals, I want you all do know that it’s a very slim chance that Liu Yi Fei will reach your message here.
I understand that some of you want to leave your email here even if the chance is very very very very very very very small.. just in case some miracles happen, and I’m fine with it.

The other few are not really released outside of China area, so I don’t know their English title.
