Maria Sharapova Biography
Maria Sharapova started playing tennis at age of 4 and when Sharapova was 6, she got to play legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova when Navratilova was giving an exhibition class in Moscow.
Navratilova saw the talent in Sharapova and recommended Sharapova’s father to send her to Nick Bollettieri’s Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida USA… which he did when Sharapova was 9.
Sharapova turned pro at the tender age of 14 and emerged quickly as one of the most talk-about tennis players back then.
Even before Maria Sharapova claimed any major title, she began to feature on various magazines but she proved to the world that she is not just a pretty face by being the first ever Russian Wimbledon champion at the age 17 years old.
Maria Sharapova also won the Season-Ending Championships at the same year (2004) and ranked top 5 at the year end rankings.
Maria Sharapova became the first ever Russian woman to hold WTA world No.1 ranking on August 22, 2005. However series of injuries had prevented her from winning any grand slam in 2005, and she eventually lost her No 1 ranking by year end.
It took a while for Sharapova to recover back her form; she won her first title in 9 months at the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells on March 2006.
Maria Sharapova also made headline in early 2006 for posing in bikini for Sports Illustrated. She also began to appear more and more in international commercials.
Not everyone like the way Sharapova play the game though, some opponents actually complained that she’s making too much noise with her screaming when hitting the ball.
Maria Sharapova won her 2nd Grand Slam title in US Open 2006.

i guess we share the same taste, i’m a BIG fan of jeon ji hyun and maria sharapova. maria is playing the semis of aussie open afterwards (too bad i don’t have a ticket), although i don’t fancy her chance of beating justine henin-hardenne, i still hope that she can take the title( i am so dissapointed last year when she was so close in winning a grand slam again)…yea, i also started watching tennis becuz of her. n as for the movie, “daisy” starring jeon ji hyun, the release date is postponed many many times, from december to january 19th, then to feb 9th, now its 23 feb, but there are news that it might be premiered on march (which is most likely, becuz the film company wants to release the movie in asia at the same time)

Hi Slacker, glad to see someone sharing the same taste. Among all my favorite celebrities, Jeon Ji Hyun and Maria Sharapova are among the top.
Too bad that Maria lost in the Aussie open, a game well fought though.
And Daisy.. pretty disappointing, delayed too many times, don’t know when it will be finally released. Anyhow still would love to see it when release.. I saw the movie preview, looks pretty cool :)

I detest Sharapova !!!!! I cannot stand how she pumps her fist and scrunches up her face when she wins a point - even if it’s when her opponent makes a mistake. I can understand an accasional fist pump when you hit a winner, but not when the other player makes a mistake. She is bush league. In addition, she groans even when she hits a soft shot - she sounds like an idiot. Granted, she is a teriffic player, but I have trouble watching any of her matches.
I always root for her opponent. Justine Henna Hardenne is my girl. Hopefully, Maria will grow out of her pathetic court antics, and not be so obnoxious.

Well Brian.. some will like Sharapova, some won’t. The way she play.. is just her style. Too bad you find it really distasteful, but I believe many people will be fine with it as I do.
I do like Justin H Hardenne as well.. that we have something in common.. perhaps I’m the kind of person who rarely find someone that I don’t like lol.

Yea yummy lol..especially everyone on the site is here because you like the person or in the case of mike he,, the people like the person,,
but anyhow..i kinda don’t like when sharapova always throws her fist in the air when her opponent makes a mistake…but oh well..she’s just that type of player.
tho i dont like her behavior on the court, she’s still very very beautiful.
but she seems nice off the court (like when shes talking for a news press)

Like I said.. Sharapova is just a girl, I will be ashamed to compare my achivement when I was 19 to what she achieve now. Sharapova is not perfect, no doubt, but she’s a decently nice person, that’s what I believe.
